Breaking in your car

Breaking in your car
So guys what are you thoughts on breaking in your car. To go more in depth, how much mileage should your car have before you begin pulling it hard? My cousin is a mechanic and he told me that you should try to keep it under 3 rpm for the first 1000 miles.

it's almost impossible to keep the car under 3k rpm....my suggestion is just drive it normally/dont floor it or go near redline for the first 1k miles...thats the proper break-in I believe

No DON'T keep it 3,000 and under, drive it normal, don't drive the car at any set rpm. Vary the R's alot. Don't slam on the breaks, don't go over 70 mph. Take it easy, but use the rpm's. Just don't redline. DON'T warm it up a long time. Don't let it idle in park. When the car is in drive you get better oil pressure as you press the gas. You want to gradually drive it a little harder each time. Its like breaking in a Nitro R/C car. DON'T baby it TOO much! AND DON'T take short trips, make sure it is up to temp for a while. Even though the temp gauge says it is, thats the water temp. The entire engine needs to heat up. Expand and contract. Common sense.

Its in the manual. Just follow that. Take it to 1000 miles if you want to be safe. You can try using SS when you are cruzing. Go up and down in gear so you won't be goign at the same rpm for a long period of time.

no braking excessively for the first 200 miles, don't redline it or push it hard until 1000 miles. Also drive it at varied RPMs and speeds.

Follow whatever the owner's manual says.
I believe it will say to keep the factory oil in the motor till the MID tells you to change it. Follow that too. From what I've been reading (and what you can find here I believe), the factory fill has extra moly for a proper motor break-in..

I know the answer as being "yes" because I've been told by other manufacturers not to use synthetic oils for that very reason... Honda doesn't have sole rights to engine technology which is also why I know this debate is pointless.
In reality there is no right or wrong way to "break-in" an engine, just using it breaks it in, whether you like it or not.
I just like discussing the crazy ideas about engine break-in lore... It's a good bet Honda startup oil is nothing more than some stuff that'll ensure it won't break down before the "recommended interval." The Honda engineers then hope the saps that lightfoot it will eventually build up enough crap to scrape the surfaces down to "break-in spec."

Varying RPM though is the best idea though, if you're worried about it. 30K nitro car engine isn't the same as a 4 stroker TL, by any stretch.

I have a ton o' nitro experience as well as carbed and fuelie 2-strokes including SDI (semi direct injection)... I've got c.i.d. 4-stroke nitro engines in airplanes and run a few nitro cars as well. I just cannot in any way relate nitros to any type of gasoline engine when considering break in technique.
