Bought off the lot or ordered your TL?
Hello again! Around this time last year I was considering an '07 TL-S but since we just got married decided to keep my 528 a little longer. Well things are settled now and I'm back on AcuraZine. I love my BMW but same ole story, maint costs are getting on the wife's nerves so it's gotta go. My question is how many here just bought from what was on the dealer's lot or who ordered their car. I'm asking as I'm reading about some getting around $33-36K otd prices and I know of the $2,000 off invoice as well as this being the last year for the current body. Add to that I'm also going in w/ Costco pricing (similar to carsdirect) I think I shouldn't do too bad. Problem is finding the exact car I want, namely WDP w/ ebony interior & 6 speed. There's about Acura 5 dealers in my area, I stopped by the closest one 2 days ago just browsing, didn't get into the #'s but they had a couple of TL Type-s on the lot but all automatic except 1 which was their demo in silver. That was the only 6 speed he had and it had a lil over 1,000 miles on it. BTW, they kept saying it was an '08 but the build date on the door jamb said 7/07 so I thought it was actually an '07. When does Acura start their model year? I know BMW's built from september on are the next year's car (excluding the '08's w/ the new engines which came out in the spring).
Sorry I'm getting off topic here. Anyway, the finance manager came over saying that was the only 6 speed he had and wasn't getting anymore in as far as he knew of so he'd knock some off of MSRP or that one due to the miles and being a demo but basically letting me know off the bat he wasn't moving too much from there. Mind you now, all I did was a test drive, inquire as to exactly what I wanted and what they had in stock. I made no mention of pricing, I just let them do the talking. They also said they can get a car from as far as Connecticut or order one.
So my question's are if it's ordered or they have to get it from somewhere else, what are the chances of still being able to get the $2k off? I think the TL's are built in Ohio so does Acura have a program where you can take delivery of the car there and not pay the destination charge (like BMW's European Delivery or Performance Center Delivery)? Again, I apologize for the length/multiple questions and BMW referances this being an Acura forum and all but I appreciate your time.
P.S.: What do you think of this car? Driver's seat looks a lil worn, I'm not sure which exhaust this is (Comptech?), and it also has the AEM intake. Price I think is a tad high though. http://21-century-leasing.ebizautos....px?iid=2729387

if you want the car in wdp 6speed... ebony interior.... go to acura.com... pull up all the dealers within 200 miles... call them all... and when you find one that has it... buy it
ps. if you find a dealer with a 6speed nbp.... get it

Bought my 04 off the lot. I don't think that Acura offers any delivery at the factory like BMW does. I think they are getting close to the end of the model run so you may be able to still order the car you want. At this point in time $2000 off the sticker might be possible. Good hunting.
Bought my 05 off the lot. I regret not waiting for the 6MT but I got the exterior/interior color combo I was looking for. Unfortunately, I was in a time crunch at the time I was in the market for a new car.
After looking at some pics on the internet, my wife and I agreed that the CBP wasn't a color we wanted (even though it is my transportation).
I happened to be near the dealer a few days later, and after seeing the CBP/Taupe/TL-S wheels in person, it was a must have. I waited for it to be rolled off the truck and prepped.

Bought our 08 off the lot in February. We bought the base TL non-navi in Polished Metal Metallic and Ebony interior. I LOVE IT. We were also able to get it for $200 over invoice so about $31, 100. You should be able to find the one you want at any Acura dealer around time. It's just a matter of doing some research. Get the one you really want.

I'd be awfully surprised if you could actually "order" a car at this late date. As you've discovered, they wrap up model year production pretty early on (the 7/07) date on the 08 you're considering should be a clue). Add to the mix the fact that they're introducing an all new model this year (and the time it takes to changeover), I just can't imagine Acura hasn't already stopped making TL's or will soon (but I will admit I could be all wet). If you're firm on the color (whatever WDP is (side rant: what the heck happened to blue, black, red, white, etc.)) then you'll have more trouble finding a car. The desire for a manual trans will further narrow the field of available cars (dealers don't stock too many; regardless of their popularity here, they're a very small percentage of TL sales and have limited resale potential)(I assume dealers think of this stuff since most TL's are traded in and they're going to have to sell them again). Depending on how badly you want a particular car, just hit the net and find it. And if it's too far for a dealer to get it for you, the worst thing the could happen is you'd have to go get it (less of a hassle than it sounds in this day and age). Look at the big picture; it's something you're going to be living with for 2, 3, 4 or however many years and you may as well get what you want. And by the way, I've used Herb Connolly in Framingham for a number of years now and and am quite satisfied. ask for Clyde and tell him the captain sent you.
i dont know anyone who would order an acura of any type...mainly because the options are soo limited...as for the type s....the only option is auto/manual...summer tire/all weather tire...thats it....
good advice, about going to acura.com and checking with all the dealers within 200 miles...you will find the car...

Purchased my car off the lot. I was originally looking for KBP with 6MT, and was searching the dealer's inventory. Had one dealer that was going to trade for the vehicle, was close to doing the deal with them until I heard they planned on having the vehicle driven 100 miles for the dealership they were trading with. I told them to forget it!
Ended up with CBP which was on the dealer's lot.
If you want to do a little traveling, I just saw that Elite Acura (Southern NJ) does have a WDP with MT. Kind of interesting because they have 4 MTs on their lot. There are lots of dealerships that only have Autos.

Thank you everyone for your responses! Simba91102, WDP=white. Most of what I'm coming across is in NBP and we all know there's no color sexier than a shiny black car @ night, mine now is black but I've had it for 6 years so was looking for somewhat of a break w/ going for a lighter color but on the same token, time is somewhat closing as in we're expecting in September so that leaves me A)gotta get s'thing soon (ie:take what I can get that's readily avail now) & B)This may be the last "big" purchase that I get to do for myself for a while (ie:get exactly what I want as I'm gonna be stuck w/ it for a good while). I did the config on Acura's site and it gave me Sunnyside in NH, 1st Acura in Seekonk, Herb Connolley, Herb Chambers, & Boston Acura all as having to locate the exact combo so it looks like a ride out to NJ might just be in order. I'll keep looking and who knows, perhaps my next post would be pics from a short road trip back.
Well not really a "Special Order" but color/tranny combo.....It Paragon a week and change to get my car. I wanted somethign different so i got the CBP with black interior 6MT. Love it!!! Price was still the same.
When I got my TL 3 years ago, they don't have the exact color that I want on the interior and exterior on their alot so what they will do is try to locate the other TL u want and make a trade with the other Acure dealer....That what they do 4 me any way....
I bought my 04 off the lot in March of 04 and just bought a new 08 off the lot as well. I was always told that one could get a better deal to do so as oppossed to ordering or even doing a dealer swap but I am not sure if in this competitive market that still holds true. I would think so because the dealer is already paying for it and its taking up inventory space.

I bought my Type S off the lot. Before I went in to the dealership, I had REAL good luck at Cars.com. I found a multitude of TL's available. You might want to check it out.
I walked in the dealer dressed in F***ed up sweats a ripped shirt with paint on it and shit new balance sneakers..... no one comes up to me for about 45 mins im messing with all the cars inside the showroom and one of the sales people points at me while talking to another sales guy..... he comes over and says hey can I help u??? im like yea get this car prepped im gonna take it. 20 mins later the credit was run and paperwork was signed n finalized. car was prepped the next day and ready to go. i got the car at invoice. and picked the one I wanted off the lot. they had one black 1 red and 1 silver all stick ....i was like oookkkk ill take silver lol
Dealer swap in NC. Crown offered me a better price than Flow Acura did. Crown didnt have Black on Black with navi but they did a dealer trade with flow... Made my day when they said they would trade with Flow!!! Had 50 miles on it though but oh well, no problems whatsoever
Purchased mine off the lot. The dealer only had 2 KBP back in April; 1 MT taupe, 1 AT ebony. Because i drive so many miles, especially in city traffic, and i LOVE the ebony/silver interior i opted for the AT. According to my sales guy, the 2 rarest combos for the Type S (at least in Chicago) are CBP + KBP Manuals. So, hopefully the WDP MT will not be too hard to find!
As for delivery; you will need to pay the destination charge regardless of where you purchase it. My dad ordered a Tahoe Z71 (which is built in IL, about 2 hours from where i live) and wanted to pick it up. The salesman told him that he would be able to pick it up at the dealer across the street from the plant, but would still need to pay the entire delivery charge. Apparently Union Rules for Auto Transporters require that they "tow" all vehicles from the plant to the dealers, regardless of distance. Even the dealer across the street gets "car carrier shipments". It's a scam in my eyes...but at least the people have jobs! (I took European delivery with my uncle of his M6...and you still pay a destination charge [i'm assuming this goes to the union as well])

Bought my '04 off the lot. I wanted to get an RRP 6MT, but no local dealer had one and I was looking at a long wait. Meanwhile, Radley received an NBP 6MT. I was without a car at the the time as my Accord had been totaled when I was rear-ended the week before, so I bought the NBP. Sometimes I wish I had waited for an RRP (not as much work to keep it looking good), but I've been happy with the NBP anyway.

I got my 06 WDP MT at the end of June...and it was hard to find...BUT I insisted on that combination or no deal...If you absolutely have to deal with that specific dealer, let em know You'll only take that color/transmission combination. They will find the car you want and trade with another dealership & get it for you.
This thread made me wonder, can you order a car in say BBM (gold), and get a black interior? I hate gold cars because its mostly old people driving them, but a gold car with black interior could look great!
I got mine off the lot 'cuz I couldn't wait for another 6 days (a new one would arrive with the same color combo) AND the dealer gave me a decent offer I couldn't refuse at that time ...
I did order my TL back in y2k though ....

It was easy to find the '05 TL in SSM/Navi/5A/black interior, but I didn't see one with a gray interior (which was something I considered seriously), and all the other cars I've ever bought had common options packages in subdued colors (silver, gray and one white).
TLs are the EASISEST car to find in your combo. That's because there's only 2 variables besides the color. Nav and 6-Spd. (unless you are looking for something that isn't standard combo and ultra rare like anthractite/camel or desert mist/ebony)
Whenever I want to buy a car I get the salesperson all excited about getting my sale and that I am serious to buy now with cash in hand. If they see how easy and fast the deal can be because I know exactly what I want they will do whatever it takes to make the sale. I told em my color combo. They didn't have it. I pressured them. Well, they got it from somewhere else and it had only 4 miles on it. $5k off list. $30,900 with Navigation. I got $6k of list on Lexus last year and $11K off of a Cadillac for my parents. I've gotten pretty good at this.
You can have your way don't let them have theirs. You are the customer.

. Just to let you know, the wdp/ebony only comes in 2006... Goodluck . And if you do find one in that combo, u better NOT sleep on it.WHOOPS. did not see that you wanted a TL-S... U might have a better chance
It woudnt be hard to find a MT .The TL would hold its value well but left to me, i would wait and get the redesigned version ,especially this close to the end of this current generation (Im really hoping for SH-AWD).

the first dealer i went to didn't have the color that i wanted... Desert Mist Metallic... and he said that he would have to do a swap with a dealer or order it to be built... this was in Dec 2006 when i was trying to get the 07 model... i went to Park Ave Acura and they had the car sitting in their warehouse... i canceled my order at the first dealer and drove the car off that weekend...
By the way, just to add to this thread, when my mom bought her (now my) 2000 TL, Mile High Acura ordered a TW with the Fern interior. On the lot they only had WDP with parchment and TW with parchment, which is an ugly interior color
The dealer didn't have what I wanted, but had one coming in (allocated) in a few weeks. Sure enough, when it came in I bought it. It wasn't my first color choice, but was acceptable. They had also offered to dealer trade to get what I wanted sooner, but every single car from another dealer had mud flaps and wheels locks, which I didn't want. BTW, they refuse to take that stuff off if somebody has put it on. The problem is the 6-speed. The dealers don't want to stock them because they don't appeal to everybody. They had two sticks in stock, but both with Nav, which I didn't want at the time. If I had it to do over again, I would have bought one of the nav cars off the lot. Investigate the dealer trade angle. Sometimes the dealers are just lazy or want to get rid of what they have and they'll push you into an automatic. There are many on this board who did that and regretted it for a long time. A color can grow on you, but an automatic transmission is forever! Good luck with whatever you do.
