body damage, how much will it cost?
the sucky part is it's not just on the bumper, it's crimped the fender which means the cost went up about 30-40%% just for the body work. Check around some reputable body shops and get some quotes. if it's too high then make the claim. do it quickly though.

You can make a claim, but unless your deductible is 0 you will not benefit from the claim. Plus, you will be paying for it for years since your insurance will go up.
Not worth involving insurance. Just fix it and be done with it.

a body shop should be able to work out the dent pretty easily since it's in the wheel-well. A quick polish should get rid of most of the scratches, for the deeper ones, touchup paint should work well.
It shouldn't be that high you can def pull that dent out and buff it. It will make it look a little better.
Here's my damage.
Go and get a free est. I doubt thats 1,000. You can pick up a new rear a-spec lip for 250 or less, and use some prepsol and polish on the rear panel and if there's anything left just touch it up. I have the slightest dent in that area was well the dent wizard wanted 150-200 to fix a nuckle size dent. I use some prepsol and polish took out 90% of the marks and touched up a very small area then called it a day.
Well, this is the best I could do. First I used some prep-all and sanded it down. It probably looked best at that point... after I tried using some touch-up paint stuff I had from paintscratch + some more sanding + polish but I feel like that process only made it worse. There are about 10-15 visible scratches in the area. It doesn't look that bad in the pic but with my halogen light pointed at the spot it looks horrible.
^^Hey man it definately looks a lot better now. Hardly noticeable from a distance I would say. I did the same thing you did. Check out my pics below. The first one is a picture of the damage the day it happened and the second one is how it looks after I had as much as I could buffed out. Mine is a bit more noticeable cause it looks like the dent is deeper. I was told by the bodyshops the reason it was a pricey repair was because of exactly where the dent is and how it takes a lot more work for them to be able to get to it. I don't know if thats bs or not but it made sense at the time they explained it :dunno

As an Insurance Adjuster it mainly depends on where you live and the labor rates they charge. I write in the San Francisco Peninsula and we are pretty high in terms of labor rates appox. 80 hr for labor and 37 hr for paint. If you goto a reputable bodyshop be ready to pay $1000-$1300.00s for those (silver TL) repairs.
P.S. a little bumper nick is on the average $600-$700.00 for a repair and repaint at a reputable shop, not a spot paint repair.

So another update: even though I put in some more work to the point I think the damage would be barely noticeable, I still brought it to a reputable body shop in the area. It is costing me around $450 for just the quarter panel fender repair. It was another $100-125 or so for the a-spec but I decided that is almost half the price of the a-spec and wasn't worth it. The rental car is costing me about $70--going from the TL to the Elantra is so scary
A different shop which didn't seem as good quoted me only $200-300 for the same repair but I decided to go with the better shop--not sure if it would've made a big difference.
Since I was getting work done I decided I might as well get my grill painted too, hopefully it turns out nice.

I just had almost the exact same damage fixed on my car. Est was about $600 to fix the scrape/dent prime, paint and blend the door and rear quarter.
I paid $350 though cause I bring all my company vehicles to him when we need body work done.
