Angry blown subwoofer? @#$%

well i got my windows tinted today
looks great!

but i think the dudes at the tinting place blew my subwoofer...ive never noticed the subwoofer distort before but today after i got my car back and decided to play some music i hear my subwoofer distorting

seems like its been blown and sounds really bad!
im not exactly sure if they did it or it "just happend".
My gains are not set high
bass is at 3
subwoofer is at 3
and terrible is at 5

what can i do about this? will the dealer replace it?
im pretty sure its the punks at the tinting place probobly decided to play around with car...bastards

It should be within warranty. Get it to the dealer.

Did you check to see if they modified your bass/treble/subwoofer settings at all? That would probably be proof enough for you to go to a manager with.

ravi - actually, your gains are set high. They may not be maxed out, but any boost at all can potentially result in a blown driver if the manufacturer didn't "size up" the amplifier / drivers accordingly.

More important than your gain settings is your average listening level. For example, I generally listen at 9 or 10 for regualar radio / CD, and about 14 for XM radio. Do you know what your volume settings usually are?

gains for listening are usually between 10 to 23max
on average prob 15 or 17
nothin to extreme, i mean it should be able to handle that without blowing it

yea i checked the gains and they were exactly the same as if they werent touched at all.....maybe when they were putting the window tint on the rear windshield the over spray from the water went into the subwoofer? yea, i know sounds silly..

Think Wet?

If I were a betting man, I bet they spilled lots of water on those paper speaker cones, and if so, they may of been wet when you cranked up the volume. If thats the case, you most likely blew your speakers...

lucky you if they're broken. instead of forcing yourself to upgrade the sound, it forces you. forced mods are the best mods.

Maybe the window tint place removed the padding at the back edge of the deck causeing it to reverberate? This happened to a friend of mine when they were pushing the tint down to the bottom of the window, they pushed the padding part down, so now the deck rubs the window with bass.

otherwise straight to the dealer and hopefully they replace it

You could nothing
You can crash the car and a get a new one
You can blow out your ear drums using M80's
You can only listen to voice programming
You can buy headphones and wire them in
Need more options?

UPDATE

weird.... the subwoofer works fine now
maybe it was just wet from the over spray?

im sure they wouldnt intentionally blow the subwoofer. They did a good job on the car and its looking great!
