Blow off Valve

I love the sound the blow off valve makes but is it pointless to install one if you do not have a supercharger? Would it do anything?

A blow off valve is even pointless with a S/C. An N/A motor runs off of vacuum, why would you even think of putting a BOV on an N/a???

LOL...
BOV's are for wastegate'd turbochargers. They allow the built up pressure to be vented (blowing off), when the car decelerates and no longer requires boost. This prevent the turbo from surging, and thus failure.

Sounds like you bought the wrong car if you want the boy racer sound/image.

You could always install this...

The sound generated is conspicuous, and will not make one have a second look to ensure if it is genuine.

haha they do make ones for non turbo cars, you hook it up tot he intake but w/o pressure building up, it doesn't make much of a sound. Seriously dude, don't get one unless you have turbo. Well, you can get one if you want to be the laughing stock of the city known as the "guy who has a TL non turbo with a blow off valve" I know what you mean though, I had an awd turbo eclipse and it was quite fun to play with every now and then....it lets people know you mean business, usually.

this is true, those are meant for turbos.... I thought of modifying a air pump in my camaro to blow air for a blow-off valve, but i changed my mind.

Not to get to much off topic but. A supercharger uses a bypass valve, or you can use a blow off valve venting to atmostphere (does the same thing) with a Centrifugal style supercharger, depending on the application. IE placement of MAF etc. With a roots/twinscrew SC the bypass is attached to the blower and recirculates with no way to vent it to the atmosphere.

But anyway, if you want the "cool" blow off valve sound, buy a turbo or a car that has one
