best climate control setting for heat

To get Auto Heat, without having the air conditioning come on, is the best setting to push the auto button, and then push the AC button so the display reads "A/C off"? If I do that is it still in the auto mode?

I thought you just set the temperature and the heat or a/c comes on as it is needed.

Auto is just that, auto... the minute you fool around with any other settings you have ruined the whole thing. I keep mine set to 76 or so and forget it.

I just turn the A/C off and punch up the higher temp levels. I don'r fuss with the mode or fan settings, but i guess you could experiment with them.

Ruined is a bit strong. Auto is, as you say, auto. It controls both heat and A/C -- which means cooling and removal of moisture from the air. If I actually need cooling or removal of moisture form the air, auto is the way to go.

However, if you don't need moisture removal or cooling, you can hit auto and then the A/C button (to turn off A/C) and you'll still have the system control fan speed, air outlet location, and temperature (as best it can without A/C) but A/C won't be running. So, for me, unless I need cooling or moisture removal, I run the system in auto but without the A/C on. That way, I get better mileage and more power for driving the car -- and I still get the temperature and fan speed controlled. If I really need cooling or moisture removal, I make it full auto.

I do the same and sometimes adjust the fan. Usually when the car has been in the sun all day at work (even with a windshield shade) and the inside temperature is higher than what the climate control is set for the fan speed goes pretty high. It won't cool off much without the AC, but it's really not hot enough to run the AC. So I turn the fan down and open the windows a little.

and I'm on my why home the fan on auto goes pretty high. It won't really cool down the

Yes, I like it warm. Plan to move somewhere warmer when I can. Even in the 50's feels cold to me now after living farther south a while.

Firstly, you have to let the engine warm up first to get decent heat in the car... I think the heating function of the climate control gets it's heat from the engine or the heater is tied to the engine being warmer.

If I need to get some heat right away (such as entering a car that has been out in the cold the whole night, I wait for the engine to warm up a little then just set the temp to about 15-20 degrees higher than the outside temp...

Since the car is trying to keep the inside at the temp you set... it reacts against the temp setting that is displayed on the climate control (like your home thermostat) so if it's 80 and you want immediate cooling, set your temp to 65 or 63 and the AC comes on with med-high to high fan... likewise for heating... if it's 55 and you want immediate heating... set your temp to 75 or 78 and the fan will blow harder and bring heat.

This way, I only change 1 setting (temp) instead of messing with fan speed, mode, etc.

Hope this works for you if you want to try it... All I can say is it works for me.

I leave mine in Auto all the time unless it's extremely dry outside. That way, the AC comes on to remove moisture and keep the windows free of fog even in the winter. I don't see any difference in gas mileage with the AC on or off. There might be a slight difference but it doesn't show on the computer.

i doubt it's still in "auto" - even if you change to recirc the auto sign comes off, so if you take of a/c you prob switch out of auto as well.

although - does anyone know if the car still regulates fan + temp even if the auto indicator is off?

Yes, it does. If you are in auto and only turn off A/C, you're still in auto mode (minus A/C). Interior temperature is still maintained (or at least attempted to be maintained w/o A/C) and fan speed is still controlled automatically. Lastly, the Auto indicator is still on. You're still in auto mode. Just no A/C.

68 on Auto during the summer and 74 with A/C OFF for the fall and winter months. For some strange reason, 72 feels too cold in the car if it is 50 degrees or lower outside. Maybe it's me.
