best Brake rotor
So ive gotten almost every single maintenance on my TL done recently and I'm finally finishing up because the last owner mistreated the hell out of her and I had to step in. Anyways, there are a couple things I need done but the one concern I have is new rotors and pads. I can't really tell if my pads are worn because I haven't had the chance to take off the wheels but my rotors are rusted and need new ones. Does anybody have specific suggestions on which rotors and pads to get? also been looking into new calipers but not sure if I should stick with the oem ones ( 148K miles) or get aftermarket one.
Other than front brake pads (duralast max gold ceramic), I kept my TL brakes stock. However, on my 2011 odyssey, I managed to warp the rotors before I hit 30k miles… I swapped to FrozenRotor and I have been super happy with them. I have 130k+ miles now and no warp.

Any rotor will be fine. I tend to choose ones with corrosion protection coatings. I find that the silver "geomet" coatings work best
Brake pads is where you want to pay attention.
Generally speaking, the factory pads are the best overall brake pad.
However, if you want to prevent brake pulsations (people call it rotor warping), buy a semi metallic type pad.
Advance auto's "silver" pads are actually some of my favorites.
The byproduct of most semi metallic pads is elevated dust. Its a sign of an effective brake pad.
Avoid buying ceramic or low dust pads if you want to avoid brake pulsating.

I bought these Wagnor rotors and OEM Brake pads. And works great. Had it like this for 6mo to a year now.
I did have seemingly good solid rotors , not slotted or drilled, from ebay..
And I bought really high quality Ceramic pads from O'rielly's (most expensive brand)
But for some reason, every 4 months I started getting this really bad pulsating effect when the brakes were applied.
And it happened 2 or 3 times until I just changed everything.
I think what was happening is that the PADS were digging into the rotor TOO MUCH and causing problems.
Is there a such thing as having pads that are TOO Aggressive? Maybe! so I went back to OEM pads.
And I have not noticed any brake dust.. The OEM pads are better than they used to be.
I still have the old ebay rotors and the Orielly ceramic pads on the rear. Only the front was pulsating. And the hotter it got, the word it was.
I have no issue with the Orielly pads, I think they were actually "Too Good"...and too aggressive for the rotors. And possibly the combination of the pads plus the rotor was not compatible.
All rotors are made from a composite material, and you never really know what it is unless it is solid IRON. But those are only for racing.
So my point is, any cheap rotor on ebay may not be as robust as something like a WAGNOR. Yes Wagnor sure sounds CHEEZY.. And NO THRILLS.. And OEM pads are not thrilling but I know they work good! but that is what I wanted because I was unsure about other stuff, and I was trying to solve a reoccurring problem. And sure enough the problem is gone now.

https://www.summitracing.com/parts/w...l/tl/year/2005Ceramic pads tend to leave deposits on the rotor. This causes the pulsating. They're also bad for braking performance.
Their advantages are long life and low dust.

ya I tried sanding the old rotors, and I did get some black stuff to come off the rotor. it was on the ground afterwards.. And it seemed to solve the problem temporarily, even though I think I did not get all the ceramic residue off the rotors, still it was ok for a while, but it kept coming back.. And I have had ceramic before.. I dont remember having this much problem..
Maybe I should sell my old rotors? Put them on CL for $10 each. They have never been turned. haha I mean if they are still ok.. Just need to get a power sander on it and hit it again. I would turn them, but you know I dont really like taking time to find someone to do it properly without grinding too much of the rotor off and suffer performance reduction due to material loss, and some of those guys are wanting $15-20 per rotor now.. and its so much easier to just order new ones if you can find a decent price.. delivered. haha

+1 for Semi Metallic
or OEM ceramic
Even the OEM ceramic on my 4G warped a bit. Got on the highway and fixed it by re bedding brakes before it got worse. Being a manual, I tend to rarely use my brakes so that didn't help me.
