Base tips?

i have the rear mufflers chopped off and welded the stock tips to it in place of piping, for now will suffice but i feel that i get an aspec rear lip it may overwhelm the stock tips.

i want some tips like that of the atlp base but either I havn't searched enough or they're hard to find =(
or perhaps atlp sells those tips by themself? but i've yet to see them anywhere and
omgsosexysquaretiponsquarecutoutfitment!

also... POST YOUR BASE TIPS!!!
i think the evo 2 tips would look ok out the TL base rears but where do they sell 4"+ circle slant cut tips? or should i buy 2 trashed greddyevo2 mufflers and chop them tips off

imo any quad looks weird on a base or base w/ aspec so i am gauging interest for personal use and will probably help a few others starting to choose their tip set ups if wanting to go custom route.

Wait do you want quad tips or not?? I used to have the Greddy exhaust but I did the Type S rear lip conversion a few months ago so I could get 3" quad tips.

What does this mean? You have no mufflers but just had the tips welded to straight pipes?

^^ Exactly what I was questioning.

But to answer the question...
I'm sort of in the same spot, I have a base TL with type s rear bumper. I was thinking of going with quad tips like the picture GP16 posted or some 2010 TL tips. Sorry i don't have any pics.

IMHO. if u want the look of the ATLP Base tips, why don't you just purchase the full exhaust? from my own personal experience, the ATLP Base is quite an amazing exhaust with the perfect loudness/tone. also, the quality of the welds and pipes in general is spot-on. to me, it actually looks like a much better design than the OEM exhaust. sure it's pricey, but in the end it's very worth it.

this post here was sort of a basis for my comment. the ATLP Base's tips are downright sexy, but chopping off the mufflers on a TL(if thats what the OP did)just seems like a very assanine thing to do. if u want an exhaust on your car, why not just go with a full one that's been made for TL's by a group of TL enthusiasts instead of hacking up your OEM one? that's my philosophy on it.

Agreed. Yes you don't need the full exhaust just for the "look". You also don't need an actual turbo for the "sound"... they sell electronic units that fake BOV sounds or "turbo" badges you could stick on. You know what that's called when you get the "look" but not the actual benefit? Rice. And this comes from the guy with a CF hood (real not vinyl).

exactly, "DON'T FAKE THE FUNK"

puttin the ATLP tips on an OEM exhaust is kinda like drinking NA beer, really what's the point?

Oh c'mon guys, quad tips (giving impression of true dual exhaust) on a single exhaust TL-S is fake to the max... but damn does it look sexy. I got one.

Look What Brown Dropped Off

I decided to go with the stock mufflers with quad tips. I'll add the jpipe later, but for now the weekend can't get here soon enough.

Base TL w/Type-s bumper and stock tips waiting for the quad tips.

I think the stock tips look better with the aspec lip than without it. I would keep the stock tips but you might need to reweld them so they stick out more than they do now so that they'll be flush with the aspec lip. if you don't push the tips out they will be hidden by the aspec lip. save your $$ and keep the stock tips

I did the exact same thing with mine. Planning on adding the quad tips because they just look so good, but havent gotten there yet. Im running a magnaflow resonator with the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, muffler removed. It might be a little loud for some but man does it sound sick. I used to have a mustang gt with no cats and flowmasters so i like the loudness of the exhaust. But with the magnaflow resonator and no mufflers it makes the TL sound MEAN! Ill post a video soon so everyone can hear.

How much were those quad tips, and are they big enough to fill out the space in the Type S bumper?

I agree, but I have the rear TL Type-S bumper and not the base rear with an aspec lip. Right now the base tips leave a big void and look sunk in with the Type-S bumper. I'll post some pics once I get the quad tips installed.

The tips were $60 on eBay and I have not had time to measure the Type-S bumper exhaust outlets, but here are the dimensions.

Awesome I'll measue tonight. Any reason you went with the Type S bumper, instead of just putting the Type S A-Spec lip on your base bumper?

oh I gotcha. I was responding to OP but he has disappeared from this thread. those quads should fit on your car because the tip dimension is the same as atlp and the gap between the tips isn't that big. good luck!

I appreciate it. I traded bumpers with a friend that had the Type-S rear bumper and wanted to go back to stock. I was considering the Type-S A-Spec lip, but decided to hold off for now.

Can you measure the width (from tip to tip) please? Thanks.

they look almost perfect (feel like they should be raised a notch). do you have the link from where you got them?

I also decided to do the mid muffler delete since the car was up on the lift.

oh those quads look so pretty, but sadly will not fit on the base that is why this thread has come about in the first place

Sorry for falling off the radar on this thread, I didn't see any post for a bit so kinda forgot about it and posted on the link from the 2nd poster. but anyways, i know a lot of people will disagree with hacking up a stock exhaust set up but they're cheap and I know I will be replacing it later so that is my reasoning and I personally love the sound.

Also to previous poster regarding about tl-s lip on base bumper will not work without some cutting it (there is a few threads on this and cutting was required)

and speaking of faking the funk, first of, quad tips, most of them are non true dual unless you go for the new rv6 model =p. I also did not want to fake the funk of having a base model by putting on quad tips that's why I asked for something similar to the atlp. Very sexy single tips that flow nicely with the base bumper and base aspec lip.

my in the end look lipkit wise would be aspec base all around. Than again in the end i may run a type-s bumper w/ the true dual rv6 exhaust but will that bumper + aspec rear lip flow with the base aspec front and sides? kind of having a troubling thought process here but I probably won't get to any of that until i decide on my complete set up. the quad tips for base model look so small and overwhelmed by the bumper... but this is just my opinion

well as of right now I have the car totally paid off, plus I got layed off at the same time so no new mods coming in...

stick to stock tips on your base aspec and just push them out a little bit to sit flush with the rear lip

@chinkwapin did you have to do that with yours for the tips? post a picture of how it looks like oem setting and pushed out setting if you can

@swoosh are those square or atlp looking tips? pics up when they on =)

heres what mine looks like, apologies for not posting upon creation =p

imageshack totally failed and made the pictures 90degree rotated for what ever reason... it came out completely normal so they fucked up

also before anyone knocks it is completely my preference and it is not disturbing the peace unless I romp on it =) I am use to loud and straight piped cars, just had the itch to do it. and imo sounds mean

I agree, if I still had the base bumper, with or without the A-spec lip, I would have stuck with the stock tips. It flows well with the rear.

i missed this the first time I read it. Yes, it looks a little low and I brought this to the welder's attention at the shop. He informed me that because of the shape of these tips, the hot exhaust gas may warp the plastic molding around the tip. I errored on the side of caution, and left about a half inch gap at the closest point between the tip and bumper molding. Also, the slant of the bumper causes the gap to increase as you work towards the front of the bumper outlet, which you can see from the side view pics. Overall I like it and with the mid muffler delete+CAI, I have the sound I want, when I want it. Strictly Incognito
