Ok, guys, I've had the TL for 6 months and have NOT seen anything
wrt the supposed auto-dim mirror. What are you all seeing?? I had bright lights

Push the little button in the middle of the mirror...a green light should come on on the mirror near the button...auto dim is on. If it still doesn't work, see the dealer.

When the switch is turned on, its built in sensing feature automatically darkens to reduce the glare from the headlights behind you. The auto indicator light at the bottom of the mirror is lit. If it isn't working I would take it back to the dealer and have them check it out - still under warranty, right? It's great especially when the driver behind you has his hi-beams on.

Thanks guys. It sound like mine is broke. Green light on, but I have never seen
ANY changes. It's going to the dealer soon anyways to fix a couple of rattles.

ok ok.. i beleive you might be looking for a drastic change everytime you see lights behind you.. and this is not the case. Do this. when on the road, push the button so that green light is OFF. wait about 20 secs.... and SAFELY look at it and press the button again and stay looking at it, IT will dim to a bluishhh color.. thats all. And it will stay like that. It will not adjust accordingly to every light that hits it.

you can also see this in the day time. look at it from an agle. hit the button. wait in between 20 secs or 15 secs.. and you will see the shade change. now if you do this and nothing. Then yes its broken. dealer time...

You can test it during the day by covering the sensor hole on the back of the mirror (facing the front of the vehicle) with your finger. The mirror should go dark.

i noticed that there are two holes on the mirror with the button at the bottom. the right hole is the green light, what is the left hole supposed to do? is it the sensor?

the change is very subtle, as long as the headlights from the car behind you is never blinding you then it is working. if you want to test it have a friend park behind you and then turn on the high beams. you see see it adjust and it should still be ok to look in the rearview mirror.

The effect is not anywhere near as noticeable as the old manual type of dimming. I for one, much prefer the old style. A lot more effective. My eyes are to sensitive to the lights behind me.

Same here. I just tilt the mirror down so I only see the bottom several inches out the back window, and bob my head when I want to see the full picture.
