1080p front & rearview camera/mirror install {Pics}
I picked up one of those new rearview camera mirrors and wanted to share my installation on my -07 type-s along with some pics.
I ordered the camera off Amazon by a brand called DuDuBell. (there are many Chinese brands available but this one's name is what sold me )
I didn't take pics of the actual install but can walk you through some of the general steps.
First, I took the trunk liner off in order to get to the license plate & reverse light housing. I then unbolted the housing which is secured to the trunk lid with four 10mm bolts. Removing the housing I was able to get easy access to the factory wiring and the existing reverse camera mounting location.
You will need to mount the camera next to the factory camera.
I then pushed the new wiring through the OEM grommet behind the license plate followed by zip tying the new camera wiring to the existing wiring. You will need to tap the red wire on the kit (reverse trigger) to turn on the reverse marker lines on the screen when you back up. The wiring the went through the plastic passenger trunk lid arm and back down into the trunk. Once in the trunk, I fed the wire through into the passenger compartment following an existing wire entry point.
Since the rear seats don't fold, fishing the wire from the side of the seat was pretty hard, but a metal coat hangar will help grab it. I then ran the wire down the passenger floor trim and pulled it up through the B-pillar. From there, itmwent to the front of the passenger side to the headliner. I pulled the door seal to make accessing the wire much easier. Finally, run the rear camera wire to the miroralong the headliner and connect.
I will say that the length of this wire provided with the kit leaves VERY little room to spare. Anything longer and it wouldn't have made it so it seems to have been taylor made for the TL
This mirror comes with a small black GPS module which shows your latitude/longitude plus time & vehicle speed. I ran the GPS wire and placed the box near the passenger dash speaker.
This mirror doesn't give the option to hard wire from the factory. You get a cigarette adaptor or a short USB adapter.
I ran the cigarette adapter to the outlet inside the center console and ran the wiring up under the driver floor mat then up the driver A-pillar to the hoodliner.
Once everything was done, I tested for function then replaced all the body access panels and tucked the wiring.
Here are some pics of the camera mounted and in action. Please note that it's the middle of the day with the sun right overhead so the screen images are washed out in the pics.
The front facing camera is on the left with the sweet brand logo . (screen protection film hadn't been removed at this point)

Reverse camera image is lower while backing up along with the imposed lines.

Not pictured is a 3rd camera image that shows the front camera along with a smaller rear image at the same time.
Like any new tech, it will take some getting used to but I am overall very pleased. The screen is very sharp and responsive to touch and provides so may things that a stock mirror can't do. Speaking of which, you can turn this mirror into just a mirror by simply pressing a button in the bottom and turning it off.
I have a class 10 micro SD card on order; this camera supports up to 256gb of continual looping recording. (for safety & evidence like they do in Russia)
Thanks for looking

I've seen couple of those and they always look kinda crappy.
This one seems to have decent large display. Are menus responsive and well labeled or is it "chinglish" like many of them? Can it be ON with car OFF, and trigger recording when detects motion/vibration?

And how good of a mirror it is?
This thing is great. The images are super sharp which is likely because it uses Sony cameras. The screen is slick like a smartphone and responsive to the touch.
I currently have it powered by the cigarette lighter in the center console but I just ordered a hardwire kit. If you wire it to non-switched power it has a gravity and motion sensor that will start recording if your car is messed with while it is turned off. It also will not record if the car's battery voltage drops too low when the car is turned off.
I also just put in a 256gb memory card (which is the max) and it shows around 40hrs of continuous recording capacity.
I drove the car to work overnight and I am super pleased.
