Aspiring TL Type-S Owner - 2007 vs. 2008

--Sorry, just realized my original post was put in the wrong section--

Hello everyone,

I've now entered the full-time search for a 07/08 manual TL-S. I just wanted to consult this forum to ask if there are any advantages the 08 models have over the 07's? A lengthy Google search didn't really say much comparing the two.

Also, are there any specific questions you think I should ask my potential sellers about the car before purchasing?

Thanks for reading, looking forward to your response.
T.

No difference, but the 08 is better because my car is an 08

you buying from a private seller, used car dealer or Acura?

no real big differences between the two; they are virtually the same.

I noticed a bigger than average price jump for one year while shopping the 07-08 TL models. Not quite sure why, they seem identical to me. So I ended up with lower mileage 07 just to save a couple grand.

No difference between the 07 and 08. You may find a low mileage 07 at a better price.

If you are buying a 6 speed, you might want to ask if the 3rd gear issue TSB has been performed or not.

Awesome, thanks for your responses. Not limiting my search to 08' models will help increase the chances of finding the right car (especially considering I'm looking for a TL-S manual). As for who I'm buying from, I haven't decided yet and will go wherever the best deal is.

Also, are there any suggested questions I should ask specific to this model? Or are the general car questions enough?

Thanks again.

To my knowledge 07-08 come win the TSB already. It also has beefier synchros for 1st and 2nd gear.

As for things to check, the brembo front pads seem to wear out quite fast for some people. Also, listen for rattles, some TLs are worst than others.

Best of luck with the search and I agree with looking for an 07 because of the potential price break.

I have 16K miles on mine and I still look get excited everytime I go for a drive. I also always volunteer for errand or anything that involves driving around.

I think the general questions are fine. No real issues with the 07/08 TL-S's. Good luck with your search.

It took me 3 months to find my TL-S 6MT with the options i was looking for: NBP with Ebony Interior & MOST IMPORTANTLY....MANUAL....I got it transported from MD to NC....best $250 i ever spent.

IMO....go 6MT...you wont regret it, PLUS there're very rare for the 07-08 TYPE-S & ALOT more fun....I top out at 150mph insteady of 130mph...i've done it a few times.

But enough said....GL

This is not true, I have a 08 TL-S 6MT and I still had to get the 3rd gear TSB done. There are various people on this forum with 08 TL-S 6MT who have the 3rd gear problem.

Well I was just relaying what I was told at the dealership, but even post TSB you still get some odd 3rd gear behavior. I know I do, poped out of third twice and sometimes it's a but stubborn to go in. But no where near as bad as my friends 04 aspec 6mt TL.

The 2008 TL features an improved new immobilizer system, a separate Tire Pressure Monitoring System warning lamp and two new body colours. The navigation system has been updated to work in Hawaii, and the AcuraLink satellite capability has been expanded to incorporate 76 markets (up from 38 markets for the 2007 model).

I would go for the 08 simply because it will always have a higher resale value than the 07 should you ever decide to sell it.

yo sure about that? Both 07 and 08 have a tire pressure monitor, and I thougt they came with exactly the same navi hardware, only difference migt perhaps be the DVD nav disk. Also not sure what colors you refer to.

that's true, but the more he keeps the car, the more the price
gap will narrow. If he pays $1000 less now that gap will be a few hundreds at most in a few years. Plus if he's going to drive it a lot he will reduce that advantage even further.
I would be focused on mileage and condition of the vehicle. I would only worry about year built/put on the road if it will affect when your waranty will expire. For me a none issue because I always expire based on mileage not age. If you don't drive as much then your basically getting an extra year of warranty. But what really matters is the date the car was put into service for that.

Hmm I heard about the manual recall, but I was one of the first people to have the TL-S in California. Purchased it in November of 06, and when I went in to ask about the 3rd gear recall, they said mine wasn't affected.

Anyways, OP no differences what soever, go with an 07 cause it's cooler.

No real difference. Just get the one you like more and then drive it like you stole it.

When I had picked up my '07 TL-S 6MT, I didn't notice the 3rd gear being notchy when I was driving it on the highways. It's only when I'm driving on side streets that I'm noticing it, but only when I'm not shifting it at the correct point. After getting that corrected, it's like butter.

It's now down to 23 6MT TL-S in the nation according to Auto Trader.

How did you find there were only 23 on Auto Trader?
