Anyone had this problem ?

I'm a new member of this forum and I'm having a problem. I have "subscribed" to several threads to receive emails when new post are made. For some reason, I have not received a single email. I checked my profile to make sure my email address was correct and it is. I also checked all the boxes saying I want to receive emails from the forum. When I subscribe to a thread, I usually select the Instant Notification Box.... Am I missing something here ?? Any help would be appreciated !

Shouldnt it give you instant notification only when the first person posts after the last time you looked at it? and then it shouldnt notify you until you look at that thread again?

Also make sure that your logged on at all times when viewing.

Im not sure if this is right, im just trying to help out.

Pretty sure that you're correct.

All of the above is true in my case and it still won't notify me. I don't get PM notifications either.

Thanks for trying but...STILL no email notification..... I am a member of two other forums that use this same setup and I'm familiar with how it's supposed to work. Anytime there is a post made to a thread you subscribe to, you get an email. For every post there should be an email notification. Looks like I'm not the only one having this problem....Any moderators here that can look into this problem ??

I looked at your profile and everything looks fine.

I don't know why you, and others, aren't getting your notifications, but sometimes it has something to do with email settings and spam screening. Do you get notifications for PM's?

Ggesq has posted this in the moderator's forum so we'll have to let astro try to find out what's wrong, since he knows a lot more about this than any of us.

Please reply here about the PM notification, since if you're getting that you should be getting subscription notifications also.

Astro said emails have been hit or miss lately, but he is working on a solution and it should be done soon.

I just noticed I haven't been getting subscription notices either so I guess it's something we'll have to live with until things get upgraded.

Hmm...it works fine for me.

It seems like I get them after midnight everynight. Whenever anyone adds to the thread, I will get a summary the next day via email. For example, with this thread if 4 people post after me, the email will say, "There have been 4 posts since...The last poster was steve9207" etc. Then, you can scroll down and read the new posts within your email.

I use Yahoo email for my notices, then I check them on my cell phone and read the most recent posts....yeah I'm way too obsessed with AZ, haha.

FWIW: The issue is most often due to the server sending the mail (in this case, the one that is sending out the AZ mails) not adhering to very strict standards for Internet e-mail. AOL has adopted a few rules that will flat-out block an inbound message from a server that does not completely conform the basic Internet standards.

If a message is blocked as described above, it is not delivered AT ALL. Not delivered = no chance to be in a SPAM folder.

Typically, the way to correct it is to make a few minor adjustments on the server side. I've dealt with this before - if the moderator has access to the server itself, contact me direct... I very well may be able to help.

From my understanding the problem lies on the "AOL" side. It seems that members (from the past) marked any mail from Acurazine as spam so AOL automatically blocks us from sending mail????

But then again, I could be completely wrong....

I do use AOL for mail as well. I wonder if I could add the email address from Acurazine to my address book to ensure that it goes thru?

What email address do the messages from Acurazine come from?

hey guys - yeah I know nothing about AOL, AOL sucks in general haha but anyway, is there an accepted E-mail addresses/accepted senders list that will ensure that you receive ALL e-mails from this sender?

has anyone checked in the AOL config on their GUIs?

LOL Yep they do suck but I have had it for 11+years and now it's free so why not.

Either way can someone give me the Acurazine address that emails come from since I have never gotten an email from AZ ever since I have signed up?

I personally use my hotmail account to get emails from AZ- hasn't failed yet.

Maybe... In order to fix the problem, it must first be understood. To understand, someone would need access to the mail logs of the server that sends these notify messages (and possibly even admin type of access to up the debugging level).

Many of AOL's message blocks will provide the "sender" (which, in the case of these notifies, is not a real person) with a return message that says "Your message couldn't be delivered, follow this link to understand why". If we can get that error, we'll be on the path to resolution...

I agree with this statement..... I am a memeber of another forum that uses this exact set-up by VBulletin. I have never had a problem getting notifications from that forum and all my settings are identical on each board.

Well I just signed up a yahoo email account and listed that on AZ as my email address and I have already gotten an email from AZ.

I wish AOL emails would go thru but I like AZ enough to make the change for this forum. lol

As I've already said... It's the SERVER that's sending the mail that is making the AOL server mad. All that the FROM address does for us is to know whose mailbox we could possibly find the failure message in.

Can you even BEGIN to imagine how many e-mails land in that mailbox every day? We need the assistance of a system administrator to find the error, and that person would also be likely to have the power to be able to make the necessary changes to fix it.

Here's your answers... like them or not.

I already did go through the logs... weeks ago. I posted the info in the private Admin area only. The moderators reported this issue awhile back... the MODs on this site do an excellent job.

Honestly why are you using AOL in the 1st place? To put it short and sweet they suck. (I elaborate on this below a bit more as to why for e-mail they stink)

AOL has blocked us... AOL has blocked us many times in the past. This isn't the 1st time.

The *only* reason we're blocked from AOL is because other AOL users signed up for email notifications from us. Then when they got sick of them they marked us as spam instead of just going into their preferences on the forums and shutting off e-mail notifications. After we hit the AOL marked spam threshold they blacklisted us as a mass emailer. So you can blame the problem on other AOL lusers.

here's your logs... (i blocked out the persons actual email address that was given to me to search for) note the "stat=Service unavailable"

This error message is indicative of a block due to successive complaint based dynamic blocks against your IP address.

When an AOL member clicks "this is spam" for a piece of email sent from one of your IPs, this is considered a "complaint". If you are having difficulty with the number of complaints you are receiving a feedback loop would benefit you. Once you have requested a feedback loop you will be notified when a member clicks "this is spam". See feedback loop for additional information.
I don't have the time and patience to keep calling AOL because some other AOL users decided to mark us as spam... Perhaps use a e-mail provider with a better filtering service like gmail.

However feel free to call AOL and request that we be removed. Do a DNS lookup www.acurazine.com give them both of the IPs you see. I've done it 3 or 4 times in the past 3 years I don't have the patience for it anymore. Especially since there are *good* free e-mail providers like gmail available. Why people continue to use services like AOL is beyond me since they lock you in to the service... no IMAP, no POP3, can't forward e-mail to a new email address if you decide to change to one. There isn't even a good migration path to leave AOL mail if you have a huge contact list and email collection.

Anyway calling them now won't buy you much; we are moving to new servers soon and it'll only be a matter of time before they too get blacklisted. Might want to wait until that happens then spend the effort contacting AOL. Our IP addresses will be changing when me move to new servers.

I was also going to say the same thing he said about email accounts, which is why don't you get a gmail account for Acurazine? If you don't want to use it for anything else that's fine, but at least you will get your notifications. You used to need a referral for gmail but now anyone can get it. Just google gmail and go from there.

The statement I made in the link above turned out to be untrue because it seems that somehow my subscription to one of the two threads I subscribe to, the more active one, which is the Traders Feedback List, got deleted. As soon as I resubscribed, my notifications started againj ust like they always have with my gmail account.

As far as I know, I have never failed to receive notifications for PM's, which is important to me because I try to answer any I receive as quickly as possible.
