Anyone buy a 2005 within the last 6 months?
Has anyone bought a 2005 within the past 6 months or so? After enjoying my 2005 for 8.5 years (84k miles), it is totaled. Embarrassingly, it was my fault...
I will likely have to contest what the insurance company is going to offer. I want to have as much data as I can in my back pocket. KBB, Edmund's, AutoTrader, cars.com, etc. are all good data points, but wondering if anyone was willing to share their information... please PM me if you don't want to publicly say it in the forum.
Thanks! Here are a few photos... You can see where I went right under the back bumper (of an RX300). So, instead of the structure behind the bumper distributing the force into the entire car, it just went under their bumper and ripped my bumper upwards, causing the force of impact to be absorbed by the grille, hood, and front quarterpanels (note the "creases" a few feet back on the right one (on the left in the first photo, the photo that looks like a Persian cat).

I just did a nationwide search on cars.com- 05's are generally going for $15-16K. What did the insurance company offer you for your car? Unfortunately, don't forget that your 05 is now 8 years old, so they're not going to give a huge payout.

That looks bad! Got ours in May for $3,500 with 197k on the odometer. Was never wrecked and had the battery, brakes, tires, and timing belt serviced within the last year.

My 05 TL 6spd with 50K is worth $16K, don't forget I have Navi and not a single scratch, dent/ding. Always once a year is profesionally detailed.
Used ones go for $12K-$14K
Dealers would want the car for $9K with no damage. With your mileage and the damage, I say right at $8K-$10K is very reasonable! GL!

To the OP,
What did insurance offer you? When my wife's Cadillac was hit a few years ago, they used comps via KBB and cars.com to determine value and if it was worth fixing or totaling. At the time the comps value was ~ $3K above what I thought it would be, so the car was repaired. If the insurance offers you a low figure, get some reasonable comps via car.com and present them with the values. They're supposed to give you replacement value (AKA retail) vs. trade in or private party figures, which are lower. The purpose of this is that you can go out and get the same year and make of car (assuming similar mileage) so you can be made whole again. For an 05, I think $14-15K is a reasonable settlement figure.

No, thankfully nobody was injured... Just my pride!!!
Thank you all for your replies! Keep them coming, and like i said, feel free to PM me if you don't want it for the world to see....
I have not gotten the settlement offer yet, but they did rule it a total loss, repair estimate was around 10k.
I have nav, and it's an auto. The agent said they generally pay KBB private party, less deductible, but plus tag/tax.
KBB p.p. value is like 11.1k to 11.8k I believe. I had around 84k miles on it... Which brings up something people may want to think about. By the time the appraiser got to the salvage yard (1 week later), the battery was dead and he could not open the hood. Therefore, they "estimate" that it had 113k miles on it. He saw my face, and said, well, you didn't have an oil change sticker either that i could go by... b/c I do it myself... I mentioned i got new tires in January of this year, would the mileage shown on the invoice work, with the "typical" mileage added from January until now? He said yes, that wouldn't be a problem at all. And actually, the first 7.5 years of it's life i only put like 10k/year, but the last year I've put about 17k/year, so their "estimate" (like 82k) will be just under the real mileage (which said I thought was around 84k). Thank goodness, would have been a pain to get that hood open... but i did consider using a small lead acid 12V battery (like what's in computer UPSs and kid's ride-on toys) and pull the fuse for the MID and connect the battery to the leg of the fuse socket that goes to the MID - that is assuming the mileage is stored in the MID rather than ECU, which would be my guess but i didn't bother to look it up since the tire invoice works...
I am glad to have these numbers as data points, I will most likely be pushing back on the amount... I know location makes a little bit of a difference too, but I am in a pretty large metro area, OKC...
Now on to the positive side of this... I'm considering something like a 2009 or 2010 SH 6MT. For nearly all of the 8.5 years I've had this car, I've regretted not getting a 6spd, especially after my old '92 Nissan Maxima SE died about 6 years ago (it was about as quick as my TL, maybe slightly faster believe it or not). I started looking at 2007/2008 Type-S 6MT, but for not all that much more, I can get a 4th gen SH (still not crazy about the "beak" on the front of the 4th gens though). But man, talk about rare... looks like I will have to go pretty far to find a 6MT... and I'm only 200 miles from Dallas.
I don't even know if I'll like the way the SH 6MT will drive, but I can't even find a new 6MT SH within a few hundred miles of me to test drive it... I am in OKC. None here, Tulsa, Wichita, and none of the 152 TLs at the DFW area acura dealers...

I hope I don't get flamed for this... But...
I test drove a 2013 SH yesterday, and a G37 sedan... I have owned an accord and three acuras, an Integra SE (LS motor) and a GSR, and my 05 TL, but I've also owned a 92 Maxima SE, which I miss more than my 94 GSR (the maxima was of course a sedan, but about as quick as my '05 TL (C&D got a 6.7s 0-60 on the 92 SE 5MT)). I chose the TL over a G35 in 2005, but the G37 (not G37x, so RWD) 7AT was a much better driving experience than the 6AT SH......

Insurance will pay $12,060. Not too bad I don't think... That's after a $500 deductible. Almost tempted to not mess with trying to get more out of them...
Still leaning toward a G37 (2011 7AT)

JasonJ76, that's a pretty good deal I think... I didn't look up for that many miles, but I think insurance was still going to give 10-11k with am "estimated" 113k miles...
Btw, insurance company is liberty mutual. Seems to have been a decent experience over all... Granted it did take about 2 weeks from claim filing to settlement offer (now the ball is in my court to get them the title), i feel I have been offered a reasonable settlement amount... Also, rate WAS pretty good too... In OK (not my favorite state!), and we get a ton of hail, coworker just had 7k hail damage repair to his 2012 accord), insuring a 2005 TL and a 2005 MDX with 100/300 coverage, $500 deductible, no rental coverage, but for both vehicles full coverage WAS only around 1130/year. I am scared to see what it will be now after my at-fault accident with my TL a total loss and possibly the other driver's 2002 RX300. It didn't look that damaged since I went under those bumper, but it did "wrinkle" the upper portion (eye-level) of the pillar between the back side glass and the back passenger door... So damage may have been worse than it appeared... Hopefully mine won't go too high now, especially since I don't think I should change companies any time soon...
