Any known fix for the driver side door rattle?

Happy to report that I have just one rattle (car is over a year old now) but its an annoying one. I've been hoping that it would go away but hasn't.

It sounds like a metal ringing noise in the door. I've had the dealer check it out and of course they couldn't hear anything "unusual". If you have the door open and bang on it, you can hear it. Also, when you shut the door, it'll rattle.

The strange thing is that it doesn't do it all the time - I've noticed it more now in the colder weather though.

Anybody have this problem? If so, can you let me know if you were able to locate it and fix it?

Thanks.

As someone else did just recently... Although I have no real rattles (from the door at least) I may take the door apart and Dynamat the thing... The pics in the thread here were good... Do a search. I think he did it to reduce noise as opposed to fixing a rattle. However, while you're in there, you could look around and see what might be causing the problem.

I got a sqeaky sound coming from front passenger door, I did not notice any diff whether the window is up or down. It disappears when I press and hold on that door's handle. Took it to the dealer, he said they need to take my dashboard appart then put it back but shift it a little to the left towards driver's side
. That way there will be more clearance bet passenger door panel and dash board which will prevent sqeaking!
I checked the clearance on bath sides and found it identical
I pointed out that clips on both front doors are broken - the guy said it happens all the time during delivery prep - plastic cover removal and should not cause any probs! Can you believe this idiots?

I am NOT having my dashboard taken apart , I had similar work done with my 99 Accord when replacing wind shield, the dealer was never able to fix all the squeaks they introduced!

I guess I will have to take my door apart and see for myself...

Cheers

04ABYSSTL,

Where do you keep you coin holder? For a while I kept mine in the side of the driver's door where the space for it is and would get the noise you're describing. Took the car into the dealer and he couldn't find anything. Then I moved the coin holder back into the center console and no more noise.

I had a rattle in my ds door. It sounded like it was near my head (left ear area). It turned out to be the little black strip of molding up by the mirror (next to the glass). The sound was actually echoing backwards. Next time you hear the rattle put two or three fingers along this strip, apply a little pressure and see if it goes away. Once I identified this the dealer shot some foam spray behind it and it is gone.

Which mirror are you refering to, rear view or outside driver?

I've got a driver side door ratttle also. It's most noticeable when I travel over bumpy roads, and I know it's not the coin holder.

I'm having the rattle too - between this and glovebox it's driving me nuts. Time to go to dealer.

We're talking about the driver side door. So it is the driver side mirror. The narrow black strip just inside the window from the mirror.

The glovebox rattle is at the piston arm that attaches to the glovebox (right side) to lower it slowly when it is opened. I disconnected this arm and the rattle stopped. Some felt tape along both sides of this arm will probably stop the rattle also.

Kyle, how much did the dynamat job cost? Also, did you do it to all the doors and other areas inside the car. I've heard great things about dynamat, and was considering doing it to my car if it's not too expensive. Besides damping rattles, how much quieter does it make the car? Thanks for the picture, I've never seen dynamat installed before, so the picture helped me get an idea of how the install goes on the door.

Do you know what the 'foam spray' was? A lubricant? Some sort of expanding foam filler?

If it's the latter I'd be concerned about it bonding the trim to the door frame, preventing it from being replaced if necessary, e.g. crash damage.

Actual Dynamat sound dampening is expensive. The Dynamat Extreme is just that... MUCHO $$$... There are many "knock-offs" that are nearly as good at (sometimes) less than half the price! All depends on you... There are many threads on these alternatives. Fatmat is one that I am familiar with, but there are many... (quietcar.net is another i think??)

Those with the rattle please keep us all updated on what/how the dealers address this and I'll do the same although my appointment isn't for 2 weeks.

My TL also has that driver door rattle but it seems that it comes from where the airbags are on the roof... I also have the glove box rattle and one on the back that its not actually a rattle.. I didnt have time to check it, but one day I may have to take everything apart and check it out..
I really hate going to dealers for this rattles,, the only thing they do is spray some stupid silicon spray all over the car or whatever they do and SCRATCH some places... Dealers really dont take too much care as an owner like us will do because its NOT THEIR CAR fuc.@#$%@#$@..
I'll only go to dealers if that my only last resource, but else Think Im gonna break my brain..
