any guys with the 04-06 TLs get the switchblade keys???
Just random questions, is it worth the money for a new set of the switch blade keys. are they sturdy?? I use to have that kind for my audi and i ended cracking it after a year. Or should i just stick with the old keys. Have had friends who have bought them but they say the black fades really fast. yay or nay?? Any advice would be awesome before spending 200 on keys

in my opinion remember just an opninion :-) $200 for a key? if you lost the key you have I say do it if not $200 man think about it..if you got it like that you shouldnt be driving a TL an S550 is more like it.
but then again Im a dad now so I guess I have been infected with the "everything is for your child now" virus

Meh I thought about buying one a while back but like others said, $200 for a key? Can't justify it when I have two fobs that work perfectly fine. I painted my fob white though. Just to be different.

Ggesq--What is that? Lol.
Nice!
Op-My switchblade works fine on my '04, although the unlock button is fading slightly. Have owned it for over 2yrs.You can get it for a little less.

I don't know what the going rate is right now, maybe the $200 is for 2 keys? I paid $125 for my Mem1 S/B key back when Pete (I forgot his username) was a vendor.

i'm interested in getting a switchblade key for my '06, anyone know if anyone is selling?
i called a dealer today and they said the switchblade keys of the '07-'08 are a completely different system than the '04-'06 key sets, is this wrong?
i found an old thread back in '06 for when these keys just came out, but haven't found anybody with one for sale.

Per the Requests...
Damn guys you all are in love. I am too actually. Much better alternative to the switchblade considering the price. I'll just list the steps, not with pictures as it really is easy. Mods: wanna add this post and my post with pics to the 3G Garage? Dunno if there's any fob-modding DIYs there.
Note: You don't have to use white paint. Try whatever you feel like. I just didn't want to do black or silver as that's the same color of all the other fobs out there.
1) Take fob completely apart.
a) pry the bottom section from the top section (I just used my nails)
b) pull the innards out. the green circuit board comes out; lift up on the clear rubber seal around it.
c) the buttons shall fall out, and pull the battery out of the other side.
2) I sanded my fob just to roughen the surface up a bit so the paint could have something to stick to. Just choose a higher grit sandpaper. The grease and junk that has built up on the fob after a few years probably won't allow the paint to bond too well.
3) TAPE. Don't be sloppy about this step. Tape around the edges just enough so the inside covers of both pieces are covered. Tape from up under the buttons so paint can't get to the inner shell from there. Tape the Acura logo off and cut out with a razor blade. The reason it's no beuno for paint the get on the inside is primarily due to the edges of the fob- when you go to put it all back together the paint build-up won't let you reseal it. I found this out and had to shave the paint down for a while.
4) Get paintin. I just used a generic semi-gloss spray paint. I did I believe 7 coats? Still should have done more. I didn't follow up with a clear coat simply because I'm cheap and don't feel like buying a bottle of it. But spray painting 101: several thin coats are better than one THICK coat. If you have bubbles/running of paint, you're doing it wrong. It'll softer and more prone to chipping also, from my experience.
5) As mentioned, I had some left over 3M Di-Noc carbon fiber that I cut into a thin strip and stuck around the seam of the fob when I put it all back together. I used a small dot of super glue to adhere the edge of the Di-Noc down. It looked kinda plain without it, but nothing that makes it look bad. Any strip of sticker would work to cover up the seam.
6) Uh that should be all. Enjoy the many compliments you'll get. I had my keys sitting out tonight while I was at dinner with my friends and they were like "Your key thing....is WHITE!" Haha.
