Amsoil Synthetic ATF

I purchased my tl-s just 4 months ago so I don't have any mods other than a K&N Filter at this time. I do want to get in on Richies J pipe so hopefully that will work out. Anyway just want to thank those that recommended Amsoil ATF. I am trying to get all the major preventative maintenance out of the way and this was one of the items on my list. Not only do I feel more confident in my tranny I actually noticed a significant difference in the firmness of the shifts. No more delay as was the case with the Z1. The shifts are firm but smooth and the power is there on command. Just wanted to say A. Thanks B. I too now recommend Asoil to anyone considering.

Great to hear. Just for everyone reading this, it is not necessarily the brand that is selling it, but the amount of FM in the product. This just shows how 'inferior' the OEM fluid is.

So what is the right amount of FM? needed for our TLs, I'm considering switching out ATF, but lately people have been posting problems with switching, yet most do not. My TL lags when I switch from P to D to R. Etc. and throttle response on the freeway gets annoying since it isnt in the right gear to its hesitate to switch. :/

Im with MandoTL. I am almost due for tranny service and I never knew that the Z1 was that bad. Esp since all my mechanic buddies have told me to use nothin but Z1.

I am using Redline D4 Synthetic ATF and I think its great, and is a great alternative to anyone who doesn't want to experiment with the racing fluids/firmer shifts that come with it. It's superior to the Z1, and isnt as extreme as the racing fluids.

This. Stick with Redline D4 or Honda DW1 unless you know your shit and you're willing to experiment with your tranny.

That is what I fear that if I change, I do something wrong there goes my tranny. I may just stick with Honda DW1 since I do not like hard shifts, I want it to be fluid, seamless transition from gear to gear, like my Mom's 03 GMC Envoy!

i am also looking for ATF, i bought my car used, i don't know what AFT was used, car is well kept, only lots of mileage. i just hit 150k miles on my 04 TL,
i am buying mobil1 5w-20 with mobil1 filter (for motor oil). and besides that, i was reading which ATF to chose. i see people telling Redline D4 is good ? if its good, my only question is compatibility. will i simply drain 3 qt and add 3 and do it over 3 times (may be 1000 miles apart? ) and everything should go smoothly even though may have z1 class oil in tranny?

Yes, you are correct.

I'd also recommend you replacing your 3rd and 4th gear solenoids as it is a known issue with members here on AZ. It is a easy DIY and cost rougly $80 in parts.

To date, I have replaced the ATF on 3 Acura's (2002 MDX, 2004 TL and 2006 TL) using Honda's ATF-DW1 via 3x3 method. I noticed significant improvements on all 3 vehicles after only the first 1x3 change, with that said I highly recommend using DW1.

Yes i have noticed shift improvements with DW1. Im guessing they are using less FM in the new formula. I had redline atf before because of the reviews on AZ and i regret doing 4 3x3 with it. Not only did i get bad shifts it ruined my tranny and 4th gear was gone. Luckily i have Acuracare and they replaced it under warrenty.

Do a mixture of redline type F/D4 fluid. Replace 3/4th pressure switches like others have said. Now that I'm about to hit 60K miles the switches are something that's on my to-do list as well.

Recommend a 3x3 then change the sensors, or change the sensors then a 3x3?

I'm pretty sure it won't matter much. Just get it done and your car will be very happy
