Am I crazy???

Hello - new member and my 1st post. I've had multiple Honda's over the years and currently have a 2012 Accord. In October my wife broke the mold and got a MDX. The more I drive it the more I liked it. The past few weekends I've been going to some Acura dealers around my house and driving 3rd and 4th generation TLs. I'm going to pull the trigger soon.

Here's my question. I have a 2012 EX 4 cyl with a stick. Would I be cray to trade it in on a 2007 TL? The TL has 48,000 miles and is very clean. It has a great maintenance history and the dash looks solid. I can get it for $16,500 at an Acura dealer.

Your thoughts?

Pete

Well of course you know we are gonna say yes....but to add my two cents though obviously the TL is less fuel efficient and you have to put premium fuel in it... that being said, I had 2013 loaner accord for a couple of days and I was so glad when I got my TL back haha (I have a 3rd gen)

Some of it is personal choice and you haven't told us about the mileage and condition of your Accord. I have an 08 TLS and as much as I love it, not sure I would pick it over a much newer Accord. Without doing a features comparison, I'm guessing in 5 years the Accord has pretty much caught up with the TL.

Sorry, my accord is the EX so it has all the bells and whistles except for the nav and leather. I currently have 30,000 and its in great condition. I put about 17,000 on a year driving

One point to add. My son is 12 and in 5 years he will get whatever car that I have. He is not the most coordinated fellow and the stick might be a challenge for him. I want to get something that I can drive then give to him.

One: Is the accord payed for? Two: Are you willing to pay 16,500.00 for a nav system and leather seats? Three: Your son needs to know how to drive a manual- don't kid yourself into thinking a change is because of HIS best interests.

EDIT// I guess I agree with the notion that a new accord will have all of the goodies that an older TL has.

Of course, If you are just being seduced by the TL, I certainly cannot blame you. LOL

If it's the base TL, I would keep the Accord. If it's a TL-S then that's a different story.

These are probably your best points. The TL can be a sexy bitch, but in the end you have to look at the overall point of is it worth it.

Thanks for all the feedback. I'm going to pass on the 2007, however still have not made up my mind getting a 4th generation.

Yes, you'd be crazy. In 5 years of driving you'd have a car with 135,000 miles to give your son, so I would suggest that if in the 5 years he can't learn to drive a M/T, a purchase of an A/T vehicle of choice should be purchased at that time.

I would recommend a 4th gen. My 3G makes me never wanna buy an acura again from the battery drainage problem to the loose gas cap light to the navigation acting up. These Tl's should have multiple recalls on them

I've had no issues with my Acura that were not directly caused by me. I think you may have inherited a car that either hasn't been maintained or just bad luck. No man made process is perfect.
I like driving the 4g's but and the end of the week, I always missed my Type-S.

The only way I'd buy a 4g is in another universe where the 4g design is the predecessor to the newer 3g-S.

your isolated issues with the car don't constitute recalls, despite your frustration.

OP, stick with your Accord.
