Air Noise

hey all experts...

This air noise is bothering me since I've got the TL... when I put the car on hwy and outside air noise is too much... well I didnt except this from ACURA. My accord has lots of noises but that didnt bother me but now TL is luxury sedan and it bothers me.

Check the liners around windows. I do not have any noise even if I'm doin 80-85. Then, maybe my previous Integra let a LOT of air noise inside.

In my experience, air noise is really common in Acuras...I had a lot of it in my CL-a and a fair amount of it in my TL too....nothing you can do about it...not really a big deal either, right?

Re: Air Noise

Acura says:

EXTERIOR (SIDEVIEW) MIRRORS

Mirror housing needs to be small and aerodynamic to reduce turbulence-without compromising mirror area. To reduce the housing size engineers devised a way to hold the mirror element from behind instead of at the sides, and carefully controlled the gap between the mirror element and housing to further reduce turbulence. Blue-tinted mirrors also reduce eyestrain in bright conditions.

Engineers also measured the airflow through the channel between the A-pillar and the mirror. By designing this channel in an expanding V-shape, the air actually decelerates (rather than accelerates) as it moves across the glass. This helps keep the air from tumbling across the side glass, reducing high- and mid-frequency noise.

Engineers also positioned the mirrors forward, away from the window glass, to further reduce wind noise while increasing the driver's side view. A reverse tilt function automatically tilts either the left or right mirror down when the TL transmission is shifted into Reverse. This is a driver-selectable function that may be turned on or off as desired.

Whatever Acura said, IMO, I think their design has failed. The strong wind blow or turbulence really make some noise. I'm pretty sure all liners, insulation, or deafening are tight and fixed. My stupid dealer agrees Acura's vehicles have this problems.

P.S. Next time, you may pay attention to your driver side window after the rainy days. After driving in high speed, the turbulence would leave some water lines or stains over your windows from A-pillar to B-pillar, and those lines/stains are just right around your ear's level.

I agree, there is more wind noise than should be. I also believe its the mirrors. There are too much pieces that make it a side mirror. Take a look at some other mirrors on say BMWs, and can see a more molded in look

I have been on the freeway at about 70 to 80 and have not heard a lot of noise. In fact, I do not turn up my stereo to compensate like most other cars. Maybe I am spoiled as I have only had domestics previously.... and they get a lot louder.

Only time I have experienced any excessive wind noise was when I either (1) forgot to close the sunroof or (2) Have a Panthers flag attached to my window (creates a small gap). Otherwise this car is as quiet as my Mercedes and BMW have been. I honestly don't know what you are talking about regarding noise. Have you checked for proper seals? Have you driven dealer demos to verify that others seem as noisy as yours does?

a car with 16 inch rims and meater tires will ride smoother. The sportier rims and tires on the TL will not ride as well, but will out perform. Don't buy a more performance oriented sedan if you dont want the feel of it.

This car is very quiet, you must have somthing wrong with your windows. To me one of the quietest cars I have ever ridden in.

I have an accord. It always had bad wind noise. My new 04 TL is very quite on the freeway. Tire noise is more noticable.

It seems like after I put the felt in for tinted windows, I can hear more wind noise from driver's side. Maybe it's my imagination. Perhaps, they didn't roll the windows all the way up. I want to wait 3 days before open and closing the windows.

Also, I think they actually cut the inner wipers to put the felt in. I have to check it out again tomorrow during day time. Is this normal?

This tinted windows is causing me so much more grief. If I've known, I would rather live without the tint.

I can tell you that at 80-90 MPH my car is so quiet I can barely tell the engine is running. All I hear is an ocational rattle in the rear deck. No wind, road or other kinds of outside noises.

I agree with mrtech, I think the noise is sometimes related to the type of road surface with the combination of the tire that comes with the car.

seriously. no wind noise in our car besides the wind you can hear through the glass on a windy day at highway speeds. but no real wind noise; i took it for granted, and then drove a tsx as a loaner and was surprised how loud it was

my dealer told me today, they are considering not offering tinted windows anymore, because of the scratch problem. He said that if you put the felt the rubber piece will be even tighter and may create wind noise... who knows.
