Advice for TL-Owner-To-Be
Make sure you pick it up in BROAD daylight. You want to walk around the car and inspect it for any obvious (and not so obvious) paint defects, finish problems, scratches, dents, etc. Inspect the interior to make sure everything is cleaned and functioning properly.
Check the wheels and tires to make sure there are no scratches. Take it for a test drive before you sign the dotted line. And if you're anal like I am, gently knock on the door panels and steering wheel to make sure there aren't any rattles that can be fixed before you take delivery. Within 1 day of picking my car up a rattle inside the steering wheel reared its ugly head. I've had it "fixed" 3 times.

Make sure your headliner doesn't rattle incessantly before you take it home. It's easier to argue this nitpicky things BEFORE you sign the dotted line than after. It's so easy to get caught up in the excitement of picking up your new car and to disregard a lot of things you'll realize are wrong a few days later at home. Just do your best to identify problem areas.
To add to above, check the car in sunlight and shade as well. There are some deffects which can be noticed in Sun and some in the shade. Once you drove it off the dealer lot and if you missed any color deffect, mostly dealer will not fix it.

There is no way you are serious with this ? If you are the headliner is the material above your head.

The headliner is the ... well, roof lining in the interior of the cabin. This year's model, UNLIKE any previous TL model (which is really strange) will creak, rattle, and DROOP, and even buck and vibrate w/ the moonroof open at highway speeds (wind gets into the space b/w the metal roof and the interior headliner .. this one occurred to me last week!)
Just make sure, that's all.

Any other comments? I recall reading a post during a search a month ago that listed a few more items. Unfortunately I am not able to locate that post currently. I will be picking up my TL in the next few days (hopefully). Thanks to all.
I think I found a more comprehensive list in this post:

Just make sure you numb your mouth before you go there. The smile on your face after you get in and drive home will last very long and could be painful at times!
It may be too late for this, but seriously consider a new set of tires. The EL42s just don't cut it. I switched to Michelin Pilot Sports with help from the dealership ($$), and it's like driving a "new" new car.
