Adding tint over tint
Adding tint over tint
I currently have 35% tint all the way around and live in VA. Law is 35% on all windows except it is 50% on the front 2 windows. I would like to darken the rear window and the rear passenger and rear driver windows. I will keep the front driver and passenger at 35%. I belive going to 20% on thse windows is too dark so I am thinking of adding either 50% or 35% over the current tint. Is this not a good idea and if not why? what would my net result be if I went with 50 or 35% over my current 35%. Thanks
Not a good idea because tint is designed to stick on glass, not tint. If you were to do so, I think the new tint may peel off overtime or bubble. In addition, no warranty is implied by the installers. I know this because I too was thinking about putting 50% tint over 20% tint awhile back until I learned of this. I ended up getting my tint redone and putting 15% tint. Costs more, but at least you know you had it done right without any possible future problems.

Might want to also check your local laws. In oregon and washington for example, it is illegal to have more than one layer of tint, no matter how light they are. Not sure why, but that's what I remember it saying.
