adding remote start question

my audio shop is adding remote start and it will include keyless entry. my question is can we hook up to the factory "beep" when you double lock the door? with the aftermarket keyless entry if you double lock the doors the horn honks. i want to hear the factory "beep" not the horn. anyone know if you can access that? what wire?

Why are you having keyless entry installed? I would just get remote start only and from what I understand there is a way to tie it into your existing key FOB. You press a key combination start.

Talk to your installer; sounds like they might be trying to sell you one of their generic kits.

i installed a autostart into my car, if you would like to tie the remote starter into the OEM alarm system i recommend you get a "Idatalink"module. this thing acts as a bypass and does OEM integration. mine works like a dream. just make sure the remote starter you get has a RS-232 port, also known as the datalink port. i recommend either a compustar or autostart remote starter unit. check out their website and do ur research.

if you still have the factory warranty, installing a remote starter will void it. but if you dont then go for it. but let us know how it turns out.

Those remote starts VERY intrusive and require almost every wire coming out of the igntion to be tapped into. Plus you have to leave a key hidden in your car that defeats the biggest part of your theft deterant system.

IMOP most of those remote starts are crap and cause more trouble than they are worth. I have had to disable more of those things than I Can count. If a customer comes in with really weird electrical problems that is the first thing I look for.

Not true anymore with Idatalink. Any joe blow can easily install anything that has a 232 data port.

The Idatalink can be easily plugged in AND removed without cutting of any wires. If i believe correctly you dont even need a "hidden key"

go to www.compustar.com to get more info on it

Why do you want a remote start? Not what are they for, but why do YOU want one?

im not exactly sure how it voids the warranty, but i was speaking to the dealer at the acura company about installing remote starters, and he told me specifically, that if i had a remote starter installed by anyone besides the official acura company, then the warranty is void. im not sure what he exactly meant by it, but thats what he said. take it for what its worth.

They don't need a hide away key anymore. there is a new dei product that no longer requires you to have a hide away key fyi.

ya if you dont want a aftermarket remote starter then you can shell out the big dollars for a genuine acura 2 way remote starter. but it only has 100M range compared to the 3500 to 5000ft aftermarket units. i know they sell them here in canada as a option but i dunno if they have it down in the states.

Damn...I never even heard of that...they must not, or we wouldn't be having this thread started...

yup they have that as an option for most of the acuras up here since -40 celcius is not that uncommon, they started this to take away some of the buisness from the aftermarket segement. if you guys are serious about it you should see if the canadian acura dealers on ebay are willing to sell and ship them down.

I'm not sure if it is a state-level of federal-level law...but i was told by both my Acura dealer and my installer (both in IL) that as long as the person doing the installation is certified (i forget which organization...something after-market equipment installers or something), by law, Acura cannot void my warranty. The car must "be brought back to OEM before we will warranty an item, however, the installation itself will not void any part of your warranty". The installer i used also gave me a written receipt which states essentially "if any issues are caused by our product or installation, we will cover the expense".

So, basically, i felt confident enough that i went ahead and got it installed! I love it!

hata_61, does using the Idatalink allow you to retain the stock seat memory feature?

NO! It is one of the possibility with our kind of key, but there's some moduls that can bypass this.

I for myself installed a compustar and it is useful here in the crazy winter but remember that a autostarter is an OPEN DOOR for the car robbers...even if the key isnt in the car.

Good luck!

Thanks, I'm about to buy a Compustar with the CM5000 that accepts the Idatalink Blade module. Even less wiring to mess with!
