Post Acura pushes TL Type-S to 286 horsepower

Source: LLN

Acura will offer a more powerful 'Type-S' TL for the 2007 model year, according to the Boston Globe. The 3.5-liter V6 will offer 286 horsepower and 256 lb.-ft. of torque, the newspapers said. "Sinister" styling helps differentiate the Type-S from its siblings, including broad slightly modified headlights, fog lights that have been dropped into the lower fascia, and a mesh grille bisected by a chrome crossbar. Acura is expected to release official details in the near future.

ok I have to say that our cars have what???...270 HP right?...now how many times have you've put all your ponies to work?...personally I can't remember when so a few more horses to feed...just to say you got a type S , Acura will have to make the S a little more appealing.... than just TSX's mirrors ....

Think they said quad exhaut tips also.....thats appealing since aftermarket exhaust is just for looks anyways.............For people who have had a 2g for a while and were tempted to upgrade to a 3g(like me) this couldn't have come at a better time. imho

I agree man..I never liked the fog setup in the 3G and the extra HP doesn't hurt either. I always liked the 2G design more than the 3G but with the fogs below and turn signals on the mirror and an aspec kit this 07 will be worth looking at even after all the damn money I have spent in this one.

your car has 258 hp, not 270, according to acura's latest SAE test. so a type-s has a 30 hp bump plus a decent TQ bump. hopefully a 6MT option still exists.

Yep...
I'm pretty sure you could retrofit the headlights, fogs, turn signal mirrors, and grill with ease.

On the inside, retrofitting the interior woudl be a lot more expensive and complicated. The new steering wheel is pretty neat, as is the cluster... but that would cost an arm and a leg to swing over.

Overall though, I'm disappointed. for $5-7K more, you don't get much.

Strangely enough, I'm in the middle of creating a very similar interior look in my Parchment 2006 TL. I found a wrecked 2006 with ebony interior, and am snatching up as much of the black trim as I can. I will then create a very unique 2 tone effect, very similar to what you see here.

So if the fogs are down low, what is the other light still in the normal headlight cluster?

Also I'm not sure I like the new look, or the new steering wheel, but the new clusters look nice and the HP is nice too. However, it doesn't mean much for me because even if I hadn't bought in April, i wouldn't be spending close to $40k on that.

I only asked because:
1) The article made no reference to it's offering in a Manual

2) Lexus pulled the same stunt with the IS350 - 300HP and ONLY a tiptronic.

yeah I know what you mean......I think they would be hurting sales (not to mention just plain dumb) if they did not offer a 6mt..........all they have to do is check thier sales records (for non -s)to see the demand is there.

I think the other light in the headlight cluster could be DRL (Daytime Running Lights).

I dunno...
Considering MT's seem to make a VERY small percentage of TL sales. When I bought, I called 4 dealers. All had 50+ TL's on the lot, and <5 MT's. I will grant you a more expensive "enthusiast" edition as the Type-S is, will probably bring more of a market for Mt's... but
Connect that with Acura's response to the torque steer concerns from most of the rags, and they may just follow Lexus on this one and only offer the 5AT with "paddle shifting, which is still "ghey" in my book. Gimme manual or gimme death.

I wonder what they replaced on the type s. I'm sure you can swap the components onto the normal TL since it's based of the same engine.

I wonder how much those metal pedals will be. Need more pics! To be honest, there's not much on the 07 that I'm really jonesing for. I'm happy with my fuel economy/hp, not feeling the lower grill setup (I swear they stole that silver trim idea from us! lol).

Dont like 3 spokes, so that isnt an issue for me (Our wheel just seems more...mature, refined, and powerful..i duno)

The Mirror w/turn signal is debatable. We might be able to retrofit that, but I'd have to see it in person to see if I'd actually want to...

I'll probably be most envious of the updated nav system (and probably mp3 player) that I'm sure it will have. I'm also curious about what satellite radio and sound system it has...(xm and dvd audio still?)

The rims might be interesting, also something to see in person first...

Overall so far, lets put it this way, I have no buyers remorse for getting my 06.
