I guess my other question, should probably check out the 2007 TL thread, but how much of this is specific to the S-type and how much is on the base TL. Because as I said above, if I had to buy again right now, I wouldn't be looking at Spending near $40 on the S-type so all the matters to me is how much is diff between the 06 and 07 3.2TL

Dont like 3 spokes, so that isnt an issue for me (Our wheel just seems more...mature, refined, and powerful..i duno)

The Mirror w/turn signal is debatable. We might be able to retrofit that, but I'd have to see it in person to see if I'd actually want to...

I'll probably be most envious of the updated nav system (and probably mp3 player) that I'm sure it will have. I'm also curious about what satellite radio and sound system it has...(xm and dvd audio still?)

The rims might be interesting, also something to see in person first...

Overall so far, lets put it this way, I have no buyers remorse for getting my 06.
I feel pretty much the same way.

This is from CAR n Driver online. The picture looks like the 2006 model. Not a lot of info and they reference the Boston Globe article.

[I]News: Acura brings TL Type-S back for 2007
After a three-year hiatus, the TL Type-S is back with even more power.
BY JARED GALL
August 2006

For 2007, the Acura TL line will sprout a Type-S boasting a more powerful engine and a sport-tuned suspension. According to The Boston Globe, power output grows to 286, a gain of 28 hp, and torque rises 23 lb-ft. to 256. Previously, Acura offered a TL A-spec handling and appearance package, although it offered no bump in power. While the A-spec was a dealer-installed kit, the Type-S is a factory-produced regular model.

Of course, a sportier car has always entailed more than under-hood muscle to Acura, and this latest Type-S is no different. Suspension firms up all around and gets capped with Type-S specific wheels. Astute observers will notice the Type-S wears a mesh grille, a subtle spoiler, and quadruple exhaust outlets. Others will be clued in by the more obvious Type-S badging.

Inside, the Type-S invites shenanigans with sporty bucket seats boasting hearty bolstering, stainless steel pedals, and carbon fiber trim. A five-speed automatic will be standard on the Type-S. Thankfully, a six-speed manual also will be available. Pricing on the new Type-S should begin around $39,000.

holy smokes, how many views do we have?

AcuraDriver2006, brianp6621, arseny87, Doridori, Pele 96, brownie, jonnyn, mrdeeno, dalieu, righton07, whatjones911, mcafee_jones, SatinSilverTypS, kaoman, mkarg, lenmen, kuj, hooch41, Viscous, DustFreeVinyl, kabota, stevencrosbie, R J Poseidon 6, aryathegreat, TLgundee05, pebblebeach, PoochaKannInc, sonnyg80, ashaman, samkws, lembowski, XxXboboXxX, CleanCL, TL Dream, ludachrisvt, supraken, aznt1217, johnAboy, zax123, sharontha

anyway... I think many of us will be modding the mirrors to look like 2007 model. Now in 2004, we claim it has 270hp but then in 2006 rated 258hp (SAE). In other words, it's a 4.445% lose when SAE rated. So the 2007 Type S will be rated at 286hp (SAE), we're looking at 299.3hp in the 2004 rating.

It's still gonna be slower than my current Supercharged TL. I'm disappointed that Acura named it Type S rather than just Acura 3.5TL. Type S in my mind should boost the horsepower to least 40hp like in 2002 (225hp TL and 265 TL-S)

Damn pisses me off that they come out with a 2007 Type S now. I guess we just can't have the latest things in life. Make me want to go and sell my 2006 TL and get a 2007 Type S. But thats not very economically prudent. Oh well, think of it this way, the Type S will only be around for 2 years until they come up with a redesign for 2009 TL. Then its the people who bought the Type S turn to get pissed off. This is the only comforting thing I can tell myself.

Does having a 3.5 vs a 3.2 create more potential for a 100Hp blower? Not only that, I doubt there is any room for any upgrades.

Not even 30hp more than the base TL.

It's not enough. I know the car only has front wheel drive but this won't keep up with the new G35, 335i, is350 and the like.

I LOVE the new interior though.

Man life would be perfect if the TL were 300hp and rear wheels drive!

Only thing I like is the HP bump...

My thoughts...
I like the S-type horsepower and the blue color on the photos, but don't like the steering wheel, the new instrument panel, the dirt-collection special wheels or the new front lower valance with fog lights. I must be getting old...
The mirror housings with turn signals don't look well integrated from the photos, although I like the ones on the current TSX. Putting the MID buttons in a pod on the wheel makes sense for the non-Navis, though integrating it all into the Navi would have been nice.
Paddle shifters- meh... (I'm either a manual or full auto/SS guy; thank god there's no CVT!)
Happy with my '05, especially if the '07 is at $39K with no major styling changes!

It's marketing strategy, at 39k for 2007 with minor changes. You can expect the new 2009 redesigned TL to be up at $44k.

Sorry! Thats the best I could get out of it. Honestly, that is pretty good considering it was a paper newspaper and I didnt scan it, but instead downloaded the paper online which gave us more accurate colors and details. I have the article in PDF format if anyone wants it.

IMO the price is too high for the car. if i were in the market for an 07 at this point, the G35 seems like it has it beat hands down.

The '02 and '03 TL-S had 260 horsepower.

I'm loving this whole Type-S idea. The only reason why I chose the M45 Sport over the TL was because I wasn't crazy about having essentially the same car over again. I absolutely loved my '03 TL-S and I miss it, as much of an upgrade I made with the Infiniti. This is going to be a hot car when it debuts.

Don't care for the low fog lights, the instrument panel or the rims. At that price point, either I am looking at the RL or heading somewhere else. The TL needs SH-AWD around the 40K mark. Bring the Type-S when you have SH-AWD....

Forgotten coupe driver gets thrills from new Acura sedan offerings.

This 07 TL-S seems overpriced to me. I guess the 3.5L engine is pricey?

Someone said 09 for the new TL design? 6 years on one model is longer than Acura usually goes. Isn't 08 the new TL?

I like the thought of it all, but not as something I would remotely consider if I were purchasing today.

Obviously if the type-s were around when I bought my aspec I would have purchased it, but coming in well under the competition in power is not enticing, nor is the non-AWD option.

BTW, love those turn signal mirrors. Anyone know how hard that would be to swap out on an 06 TL? And also the fog lights?

from the article:
"You also get an array of standard comfort features that include a moonroof, 17-inch wheels, speed-sensitive wipers, heated power front seats , a pass-through rear center armrest, and an advanced audio system."

More advance audio system eh? Nice.

The only thing I am intrigued about the 2007 is the mirror signal lights. I'll be asking Ryan97812 for this installation

2007 looks good, bigger engine by what... 0.3L. Now the talk of 3.5L swap will be thrown out the door . Having that said, I can wait for 2009 since 2007 offer some refresh.

Just because they put paddles on the steering wheel doesn't mean it's a sequentialmanual gearbox (like the VW, Audi, BMW, or Ferrari). I think this is a huge misconception out there when manufacturers put paddles on the steering wheel. On this Acura and many other tiptronic, steptronic, etc. cars they just give you a +/- control to your steering wheel in addition to the stick. It's still the same automatic toque convertor transmission that's been out for the past 30 years with the additional of electronic controls. Paddles on the steering wheel does not mean it's a sequential manual gearbox like the BMW SMG, or Audi/VW DSG. These are manual gearboxes with computer controlled hydraulic clutch, and the main thing is they lack a torque convertor. A torque convertor is what makes and automatic and automatic (also saps power in the driveline)

The lower fog lights appear to be similar to the optional fogs I had on my 03 Accord. I had to modify the wiring on them because the fogs would only work with the headlights on. That would lead me to beleive it would be an option for non Type-S models. The shape of the lower grill inserts have changed at the outer ends, probably making it non- swappable to 04-06 TL's. I would assume the stock air intake is different due to the positioning of the fog's.

I can honestly say that it seems as if someone from Acura is lurking here and was a project team lead for the Type-S as many of the new features are not really new at all, but are incorporated as "stock". There are a few little things here and there that all of us may want to do for cosmetics, etc. but when you get down to it, spend the money on a supercharger with all these little features for the same price and you will have a hell of a better car. That's my opinion, and am I wrong? This is of course for current owners. New buyers may decide to buy an entirely different car depending on the price Acura sets it for. I don't even see "suspension" as an upgrade on the "S" - am I missing an ASPEC listing somewhere?
