Acura.com Updated
Acura.com has been updated with the new MDX and TL Type-S info. I was proud to see that Acura is finally moving truly upscale with the new MDX. As for the TL, I feel it got worse rather than improve, on some aspects at least. Anyway I thought I'd share what I found.

What are eveyone's thoughts on the new cars? I personally the new MDX, except the grill is a like too "concept car-ish", but the interior is sweet. I don't care much for the new TL, I think I would wanna get an '06 rather than the '07.

I guess I never really realized how different an s-type is from the regular version. I always thought it was just tuning (engine and susp) and some trim differences. I didn't think the whole inst cluster and motor displacement would be difference.
I don't like the red back lit gauges. But I do like the pedals.
Bummer that the Brembos aren't just for us 6MT guys anymore but how could they not put them on the S-type.
Styling as all relative. I still think the 3GTL is good enough looking right off the lot.

Thanks for the head's up. Now I know I don't want to upgrade to the TL-S, not enough change to warrant trading up to that. I'm still going to test drive it, though, for the..ummm....good of the forum.

all of the 07 tl doesn;t have the 04-06 look anymore even tho it;s not a big change it doesn;t have the CLEAN look anymore
personally i hate those rims on the Type S and the whole car doesn;t match the back looks soo mean and aggressive but the front is ugly and the rims r too small
and the red lights isnt the way to go it;s like a Civic Si blue makes the TL more unique
love the tail light and the steering wheel;s like the Audi s4

Having looked at the Acura.com site for the TL-S:
My likes: Bigger, higher HP motor
Better looking interior (seats, guages, and steering wheel)
And that's about it.
Dislikes: That blue color on the website is hard on the eyes
It strongly resembles a TSX when not viewed from the sides
I'm not feeling the round dual exhaust outlets- doesn't go with the car
Wheels
Not worth the extra $$$ at $39K expected price (MSRP)
It should come with the OEM body kit as part of the package

The new S-type is overwrought and not subtle compared to its predecessor. I'm a fan of "sleepers" and Q-ships: if it don't make it go faster or handle better, I don't want it. Why bother with a different-looking wheel if it's the same size/weight as regular wheels?? I don't want quad outlets if they don't help scavenge exhaust and add weight to boot. I'm not sure about the new S-type front end, but the rear tailights are not an improvement. Like Adobeman, I think the stock '04-06s look great unadorned. The changes to the interior of the S-type seem minimal, at least (better bolstered seats = good; red lighting instead of blue = don't care).
Maybe the S-type looks better in a color other than the blue one on Acura.com- maybe black, or silver? Funny thing is, blue was one of my top color choices for the 2003 S-type...

Hmmmm... That's weird. If you click on "Compare TL Models", under "Manual Transmission", it lists the 2007 TL Type-S as "6-Spd (Optional), and the 2007 TL as "n/a".
Does that mean that the only way to get a manual transmission now is with the Type-S?

Good writeup, I agree with you on the Type-S cosmetic changes. I also prefer the sleeper look and and while I like the pedals and new side mirrors, I could leave the wheels and exhaust tips and new grill.

"The TL Type-S features an exhaust system with 14 percent better flow than the TL, with larger pipes through much of its length. Tuned for an aggressive sound befitting the high-performance image of the Type-S, the system also features finishers with large quad outlets (two on each side)."

My post was addressing just the visible aesthetic changes on the Type-S such as the quad outlet appearance, not the functional changes. Decreased back pressure is always good where it helps engine efficiency! Functionally, what's not to like about increase to 286 hp?!
Oh, and the integrated turn-indicators on the '07 TL side mirrors are nice.
I just prefer subdued appearance and lower noise for fast street cars, i.e. straight pipes out the back as opposed to side pipes, exhaust tips ending just under bumpers instead of chrome tips, etc., all else being equal. The exhaust finishers ("chrome tips") on most cars are cosmetic only. A psychologist could probably write a dissertation on me- when looking at the new Mustang GT before getting the TL, the 2nd thing I did was pop the trunk to see if the spoiler was easy to remove (4 bolts, without removing trunk liner)....

The 2007 TL and Type-S continue to offer high-tech innovations, like the standard 225-watt Acura/ELS Surround™ Premium 8-speaker Sound System with 6-disc CD, DVD-Audio, DTS® and Dolby® Pro Logic® II. This audio system broke ground as the first standard application of DVD-Audio in a production vehicle in 2004. For 2007, it is updated to play discs encoded with WMA and MP3 music files, and features Dolby® Pro Logic® II and speed-sensitive volume compensation. The audio system also integrates active noise cancellation to reduce Type-S cabin noise while cruising.
