acura calipers?

I've seen a picture of brake calipers with the word Acura in them.. are they covers or are they replacements of the ugly stock calipers? Can I replace just the calipers or would I have to do a rotor/etc replacement too?

Anyone know where I can get them? I checked ebay and couldn't find anything.

Thanks

The calipers that say Acura on them only come with the 6 spd manual... because they are the Brembos, again only available on the 6 spd manual.

Those are the Brembos that come on the 6MT. You would have to change the whole things.

Check my pics (link follows) to see what I did with mine: Painted them gold.

ahh... that explains it. Sounds like it's a tough conversion... is it?

Seems to me I heard the number 500 being tossed around for parts cost if you DIY. I'm not sure if that is a new disk rotor also. I think they are the same.

Or, you could paint your calipers black like I did mine in gold and throw an Acura decal on there if that's what you like.

In Corvettes and on G35s, the premium brakes are gold. That's how you can tell a G35 is a 6MT from the outside.

You would have to buy the rotors and calipers, because the rotors that come with the 6MT (brembo calipers) are thinner, but bigger than the 5at.

Automatic: Ventilated, 11.8 in. (300 mm) diameter; 1.1 in. (28 mm) rotor thickness

Manual: Brembo ventilated, 12.2 in. (310 mm) diameter, 0.98 in. (25 mm) rotor thickness

From acura dealer:

Calipers brembo each: -+ $340 (very cheap actually)
Rotors for brembo each: -+$150

For a 13" brembo upgrade that works on any TL since 99 about $2400, includes SS brake lines and crossdrilled or slotted rotors.

SS brake lines by themself, about $150.

If you want the cheaper aftermarket option then get rotora 4-piston set about $1400.

hmm.. i'd like to have that classy look with the acura on the brakes... looks pricey and I don't have a lot of experience with brake lines or anything...

one more thing to add.

I remember someguy selling a brembo upgrade kit, but I don't remember if it was an upgrade from the 5mt braking system to the 6mt.

The kit also included a new hub and knuckle, don't know why, but it might be needed.

I know the 04 TL got a totaly new lower arm both 5at and 6mt, but that was it. I think it still uses the same knuckle and hub. I don't own a 04, so I can't confirm this.

If he was selling the upgrade for TL's other than 04, then is more possible that it might need a new hub and knuckle, but I still doubt it.

I looked at the drawings and the P/N's for the knuckles are different - possibly different caliper mounts. Hubs were the same. So knuckles, calipers, pins, rotors, pads (not cheap), lines, mudguards, and misc hardware...adds up fast - probably around $1500 new.
