About to buy a TL - Need some help
Hey guys, I'm planning to buy this TL and I just wanted to know what's the MOST I should pay OTD for this car from the dealer.
Specs:
2006 TL 6spd with navi
5,000 miles
$33,250 - Dealer's asking price w/o taxes
Black
Good condition
Price seems pretty high to me for an 06.
Also I've never bought a car from a dealer before so I don't know how to bargain to reduce the price.
Any tips on bargaining?
Thanks guys!!!

I suggest you start by looking at the Kelly Blue Book Value for your area (kbb.com)
I just checked and it said the suggested retail in NY for that car is $33,100, and the Trade in value is $29,125. This assumes the car is in excellent, i.e. showroom condition.
Negotiation tactics. Decide what the car is actually worth to you. Consider that a brand new one may only cost a few thousand more. If you decide for example that $31,500 is a fair price make an offer of $30,000 and let them argue with you. Be firm and don't let the price get above $31,500.
This is important: If they are unwilling to meet what you think is a fair price, walk out of the dealership. Don't pretend to walk out, GO. There are lot's of other cars and dealers in the world.
Also don't fall for the trap of the salesman meets your price but then the manager walks over and says "there's a problem" and at this point you really want the car and agree to a higher price..
What you should say is. "The salesman is negotiating for your dealership, either honor the price agreed to or I will walk" Again if they give you any problem... GO.
P.S. I paid a little more than a lot of people on this board did for my TL-S. But I liked the dealer, I was looking to establish a long term relationship and I think I got a fair but not great price. The important point is to get a deal you are happy with and then enjoy your new car.
Good Luck

That price is too high for an 06...you can get a 07 TL with navi for $600 more
....and being that you're in SoCal, I thought dealers were willing to sell the TL for less then invoice (get into the holdback) since there was a lot of competition...which would mean you could get a new 07 TL w/navi for as low was $32800

Wow, I paid 32,000 for a new TL/Navi with Protection package in August 2006. The price might make more sense if the car had an A-spec kit. It seems like cars go for less in Southern CA- it's been that way for as long as I can remember. May want to check out Autotrader.com or carmax and see if you can get a better deal or simply tell them they're insane.
First, the asking price is too high for an 06. Second, I would not buy a MT that is used. Do you know if the previous owner even know how to drive an MT, particularly if he has already sold it at 5k miles?

It's the one in Modesto. It's the only black/black 06 6spd i could find around on craigslist, autotrader, and cars.com in CA.
