6 Speed Trany

So, I had some issues with my 6 speed not "sliding" into 3rd easily when cold or just being started up. So, of course, I took it into the dealer and they said there have been problems with the syncros on the 6 speeds and took care of it. I put the problem off for about a year and finally had that taken care of about 2 1/2 months ago...

Since I got the car back, it picks when it wants to "slide" over and down for reverse. So, of course, again, I took the car BACK in and said, "What the hell? You "fixed" my car and created a new problem." So, they took my car and gave me a courtesy TL (with only 2 tweeters working and the gas light on w/n 2 miles) that I had to take back and downgrade to a TSX (no offense, just too small for me and lacks the power, but still a good car). This has been all week.

Now, they say, they have absolutely no idea what is wrong with my car. Tech line can't help them with the problem, and my trany is disassembled all over the tech bay and they are scratching their heads trying to figure out what to do. I am frustrated as all hell because I really want MY car back.

Anyone else have these problems with their 6 speed...either the 3rd gear syncros or not going into reverse? Fixes that the dealer made? Suggestions that I might be able to pass along to my dealer? Any help guys, I want my baby back!

You should have done a search here before taking you car in for the transmission problem. There's lots of info about it.

Changing to GM Syncromesh Friction Modified fluid seems to be the fix for the problem. Many people have had the third grear syncros replace only to have the same problem shortly after transmission work.

Do a search. It will keep you busy reading for a while.

I just hope they get everything back together properly. Hopefully you have an experience tech servicing it, but it doesn't sound like it. You may have more issues now. I think I would say something along the lines like "If you guys don't know what you're doing and don't get it back together properly then I expect it to be replaced."

There's a sensor that tells the car when it it stopped, then probably a solenoid that energizes allowing the reverse gate. It's to prevent going to reverse when trying to go to 6th. I'll bet something is wrong with that system.

It appears that a few springs and such were broken in the TL's tranny. I think I would have preferred a new one, but they got the parts and put it all back together. I should have her back tomorrow afternoon. I am tired of creeping along with this little 4 cylinder TSX WDP.

My thoughts exactly. If your problem returns then try the GM stuff for sure. It's much less invasive a thing to try before having your box torn apart. Many happy users

Wow! You opted to let them take your box apart after they screwed up the first time? Hell no!

When you get your car back, drive like that for about a week so you can be cognizant of any negative changes. If everything is ok, THEN go with the GM fluid. If you go with that right away, then if you have a problem and take it back, they will notice the change of OEM fluid and try to get out of fixing it citing your fluid as probable cause!
