5AT v G6

Okay, heres the deal. My friend has a G6 that daddy paid for, and he thinks hes hot stuff in it... its a 3.9L engine "one engine size away from a turbo" - thats his line to the ladies, because he thinks hes a lol, idc, because they come to my car anyway and like mine better

ANYWAY, we go back and forth racing and we both seem to win equally.... off the line he kills me (he has 6MT). from a rolling 20 he has no chance and I take him. Last night we went out on a rolling 20 and i started to get ahead... threw it in SS and tried accelerating faster, but i down shifted and red lined a little and he took me so i lost

NOTE: TO ALL THE PEOPLE ON THE BOARD WHO ARE SENSITIVE TO RACING AND DON'T LIKE TO HEAR ABOUT IT - IF YOU HAVEN'T LEFT ALREADY, YOU PROBABLY SHOULD NOW BECAUSE YOU WON'T LIKE WHAT YOU ARE ABOUT TO READ!

my question is, how quick is the acceleration at 100?

I hit 110 and the acceleration pulled like a mother... and i couldn't speed up all that well... i heard the governor shuts off at 152... and i know that accelerating at high speeds is a little tougher, but i woulda thought the v-tec would have put up a better fight... at any rate, once i got to 120 i slow down because i didn't wanna risk 5-0 or any stupid deer running across the highway (there was no one else but us on a straight run).

lol it's funny that your friend thinks there's a stock turbo G6 out there. Anyways, he has way more torque and 6MT, and you still run neck to neck with him, that's pretty impressive. I have a 2nd gen TL-S stock and I have never went past 110mph because whenever I drive, there's always a lot of traffic...back to topic, so, even at that kind of speed, my car would still pull pretty hard, no sign of giving up or anything like that, I mean, for only 260hp, it's doing pretty good.

ah ha! found some specs of the G6 GT 3.9L 6MT.

http://www.caranddriver.com/features...-g6-gt-39.html

whoa, not slow at all, about as fast as a 2nd gen TL-S 5AT!
Here are the specs:

Power (SAE net): 240 bhp @ 6000 rpm
Torque (SAE net): 240 lb-ft @ 2800 rpm

TRANSMISSION: 6-speed manual

C/D TEST RESULTS:
Zero to 60 mph: 6.2 sec
Zero to 100 mph: 16.2 sec
Zero to 110 mph: 21.1 sec
Street start, 5–60 mph: 6.5 sec
Standing ¼-mile: 14.9 sec @ 95 mph
Top speed (governor limited): 118 mph
Braking, 70–0 mph: 167 ft
Roadholding, 300-ft-dia skidpad: 0.85 g

FUEL ECONOMY:
EPA city/highway driving: 18/27 mpg

But then considering it has 3.9L engine, I expect it to make more than just 240hp and 240lb/ft of torque!

Im not sure of the impala has the 6MT version, may be that's the reason? And Im pretty sure the G6 is lighter than the impala.

That car and driver website says that the 07 Camry runs 0-60 in 5.8 sec. Thats alot faster than the TL. But the TL is a whole lot better looking.

those 3.8's and 3.9's take very well to mods and FI turns them into beasts. Your buddy should get a SC and a few bolt on's and then he'd really know what fast is.

LoL. What they hell are they gonna say that's true? Other than their cars are less expensive.
Our cars are better looking, just as fast, more reliable, more luxurious, better quality ALL around, and a better name, better service... roflwaffle.

The power goes up as you go up high in the RPM so staying in the 3rd gear going past 100 will be easy. When you shift to 4th the RPM drops and power drops significantly. Especially the TL AT cars have very tall gearing on the 4th and 5th. This is when you would need more torque to help accommodate. The 6MT is more balanced in this regard, with close gear ratios the 4th gear has a lot of power, and will get you up there quicker. The 6MT's 6th has even more power than the 5th gear on the AT. The most suffering is coming from the AT with having only 5 gears and tall gear ratios. Lexus learned this so they released the close gear ratios on the IS350, for example. Still performs well due to its improved gearing method even though it's AT.

hes right once u hit 4th gear u will lose a shit load of power unless u have sum torque adding mods....i try to just demolish ppl b4 i finish 3rd so that i dnt have to worry about getting walked in 4th...my mods now help to accomadte for the loss n power but all of these new cars coming out are tuned and geared to keep power up top

Which mods help specifically with adding torque?
