3rd GEN TL Type S question

I'm a 2nd gen TL-S person so forgive me this question.
I know that starting with the first 3rd gen in 2004, they made the standard TL about the same as the 02/03 TL-Ss, but did away with the Type S version for awhile.

What year did they start making a Type S version again that was more powerful than the regular TL?

They only made the TL-S 3G for two years, 07-08. And yes, more HP to 286 and bigger engine from 3.2L to 3.5L.

Don't be confused though, 04-06 had a tl-"sport". I find a lot of people that are non-TL owners try and lump that as a tl-s... err wrong.

Forgive me if I'm wrong here but I thought that all 04-06 with a manual was considered a TL-Sport.

http://www.acuraoemparts.com/delray/jsp/catdisplay.jsp

It's on all of the parts websites and such...

yea the manual version 04-06 is the sport "type s" of its time because of brembos...a lot of the parts are interchangeable except for engine parts.....when you go to get parts from dealers and they punch in the VIN or model some of the parts from the sport model 04-06 have been superceded by the type s parts.

Ok thanks for clearing the air. I didn't think I was wrong.

6spd, thicker sway bars, brembos, is that it?

04-06
- TL Base
- TL Sport (thicker sway bars, 6spd, brembos, motor mounts, suspension)

07-08
- TL Base
- TL-S (lights, suspension, interior, 3.5l, wheels, etc etc)

Because a type-s is called "TL Type-S" I don't think they need to specify. But back in 04-06 there was only a TL, but different trim. At least this is how I understand it.

Yeah, headlights are different a little bit too. 04-06's have single housing for the projectors, whereas the 07-08 models have two, one for the projector and one for DRL's.

Seats are more aggresive in the new tl-s, interior lights changed to red from blue, and yeah everything else was stated about.

The 04-06 TL Sport also had a limited slip differential that wasn't on the TL Premium or "Base" TL

See I had heard that too, one of the reasons I got my 6spd, but after reading on here I have yet to find that to be true.

Performance test reports

I was reading about TLs in Wikipedia and came across links to 2 Motor Trend articles on 2004 TLs which contained some performance reports.

In "Tuners-2004 Acura TL A-Spec" they reported:
2004 TL A-Spec as 0 to 60 mph at 5.7 seconds and 1/4 mile in 14.23 seconds @ 97.81
2004 TL (regular) as 0 to 60 mph at 6.0 seconds and 1/4 mile in 14.44 @ 98.17 mph.
These results seem a little optimistic to me, but I don't really know.

In " Long Term Test Verdict-2004 Acura TL" they reported:
2004 regular TL as 0 to 60 mph at 6.9 seconds and 1/4 mile in 15.1 secons @ 93.4mph

WTF??? Were they letting somebody's mother drive for those tests? They seem too slow.

^Agreed. I don't have this car for speed. It's nice to have some, but I don't expect high results without heavy modding. If I wanted that I'd be modding a boosted hatch lol...
