Need some fog light help

I have an 06 tl and wanted to put fogs in the lower grills. I have seen where members have used accord fogs in the grills. Can someone tell me what light is best to use (yr) and where is the best place to get them. How crazy is the instalation?

I asked this and was told my 06 TL already has fogs, but I want fogs in the lower grills like all other cars.

I have no idea how to install straight ???

The fogs that were spoken of are in the headlights [the inner bulbs].

---

Does anyone have the dimensions of the accord fogs?
I'm thinking of doing a retro from Subbie's fogs [they are projectors]... shape looks somewhat similar.

DRL is the fog light I believe. Never knew this untill I drove through the fog and couldnt see anything. So I turned the lights off and the DRL stayed on offcourse. It was very visible with those.

OK. Then I wouldn't consider the DRL as fogs, they are DLR. I want fogs on the lower grills like the 07-08 TL's

I think those have to be custom cuz I was looking into doing this before but gave up at the moment. It could still happen. They are the accord fog lights but I am not sure which accord

** 2003-07 Accord Foglights ** $260 from Tim. These comes with everything, including the interior switch that fits pretty well in our car.

Install is probably a bitch but in reality isn't that hard. Cutting that area of the lower grille, some trimming of the fogs, tapping power wires, run wire for switch thru firewall. That's got to be about it really...

Myron, the Canadian TL has DRLs instead of fogs that the US model has.

JD TL-S, The Fogs will go on, I believe, only when your low/hi are on.
There MIGHT be a fog switch on the handle/stick that controls the lighting... not sure, though.

not for the faint of heart

I just got done doing this 3 weeks ago and it was a PITA. Not for the faint of heart. To do it right your first time you are going to need 2-3 hours to do each light plus additional time to wire the vehicle/file down the switch to make it fit well.

DO NOT get the ebay fogs. The soft plastic lenses will crack when hit with small stones or much worse melt with many higher wattage halogens as well as higher wattage 55w HID's as I purchased.

IMO, $260 is a ripoff just to get an oem kit. The DEPOT brand fog kit is of the same oem quality and also comes with glass lenses can be purchased for $162 + shipping from autolights4u.com . Mine came within a week.

From what I've read noone has ever gone the depot route besides me... but then again there arent a whole lot of people who have done this mod.... But I give a thumbs up!

thats what I thought too, but then when I used the DRL to see through the fog they worked pretty well.

Also to note:

oem as well as depot fogs have a built in metal reflector which surrounds the bulb to prevent unwanted glare which is blinding to oncoming traffic (assuming the lights are aimed properly) while the ebay's don't have this feature. If anyone wants, i can try and snap some pics of this to show the difference in design.

yup I have those too. Great quality. Modded the front ones with white LED's as seen in my 3G garage blinking sidemarkers thread and the rear ones are much brighter than stock. Dont get the clear ones tho. Get the smoked ones.

Wow interesting. A lot of members have the DEPOT tail lights and say they are just like OEM except a tad darker. That website says it comes with everything. Even the switch. Did the switch fit in the empty spot down by the side mirror heat switch etc? Does it look just like oem?

I'm not trying to put you down or anything. But 3 hours each? What's so difficult about the lights? I understand there is a lot of trimming involved, but 3 hours? Can you elaborate?

Pics would kick ass too plz

Sure man its no problem. I'll try to explain everything the best I can right now but I'll still take some pics tonight to show what needs to be done as far as the fitment goes.

Yeah, the switch fit in the opening to the right of the side mirror heat switch. However, because this switch is designed for an Accord, it is not the EXACT same size. The corners of the switch that comes with the fogs has corners which are not quite as "rounded" as the VSA switch which has a similar design. In order to make this switch fit, you must round off the corners a bit as well as enlarge the opening a little bit in the kick board.

As far as the fitment of the Accord fogs into the lower valence I would HIGHLY recommend first removing the front aspec lip (if you have one) and then pop out the grills. If not, removing the can be very difficult and might mess up the paint on the aspec lip.

You will then see a "funnel"-like barrier behind the grills which makes the stock bumper imprevious to water while driving and is the reason you cannot see any light behind the stock lower valence grills. Because the Accord fogs are going to interfere with this area, you need to cut (dremel) a 6''x4'' section of this area off. This will allow you to anchor the fogs into the remaining part of the "funnel" using the mounting points that part of the fog housing (2 screws per fog).

Next, since the Accord fogs are a bit taller than the grill's dimensions, the top edge of the fog housing will have to be dremeled down with a cutting wheel and then sanded if you want it to look nice from all angles. Also, if you have the aspec kit, you will need to cut out a notch on the outer edge of the accord fog housing for where the lip would fit.

When the fogs arelooking good and anchored down after much test fitting and re-cutting, now its time to fit the grills back in. But first you must cut them to fit around the fogs. This is an art in itsself. Dont rush, and use a permanent marker or pencil to cut the angles necessary to make it a nice fit. Alot of fitting and removing will be necessary to get it right.

Pics coming tonight!!!
Overall time: 2-3 hours per light using this method. Just from personal experience with noone there to help.

Very nice. I figured it would be all of those steps, I just didn't think it would add up to that much time.

Can't wait for pics

pics!

Sorry for the dirty car. lol. winter sucks!

Here are some pics showing the finished product. The areas outlined in red detail just how much of the original accord fog light housing had to be cut away to make these fit the 3G TL.

Enjoy!

Do you have pics of the switch and such of the depo and how much you had to trim there?

WOW what great info and pics, you are great! I want to do this mod, but I think I will wait until 70 degree weather comes. That way I can sit in the driveway with my Dremel and trim trim trim.

Thankyou for the great info

First things first....Great Job!! , on that note I have to say that I've been asking around friends from work that own Accords to see their set up and I've been toying with the idea of doing this mod as well but I have a few questions that I need to ask....
1) Did you dissable the stock fogs ?
2) Could you tap into the existing wires that feed your stock fogs and have them on all 4 at once?
3) Having bought the Accord's fogs with the hardness...did you have to splice these and or did you just wired the (+) to the battery and the (-) to the firewall indipendently so that they go on when you want therefore need to be aware that these will not shut off automatically.
This is the 1st thread I've read that had actual pictures of what I want but before I go off and start to mess with cutting and making things fit I need a little more feedback on the wiring and you're The Man to ask...
Thanks for sharing

Why? These, if setup how I'd think, run off of their own switch.

Sure but again, why?

I'd say ideally these are setup independently of the stock "fogs"/DRLs. I hope at least that I will have the ability to JUST have these lower fogs on without anything else. And his pictures show that. Fogs + Projectors + lower fogs = helluva lot of light lol

1) Did you disasable the stock fogs

Nope, they are still functional....infact... they are improved.

Check my other picture thread in the link below below. It contains pics of ONLY the integrated fog, then integrated fogs WITH low beams. This produces more light that the lower fogs by far. But the lower fogs put out an even wider beam of light. Upper integrated 55w HID fogs on at the same time with as 35w low beams = 40% brighter than these pics (for distance brightness). Any this is WITHOUT the lower fogs on. AMAZING!

HERE: https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...754&highlight=

2) Could you tap into the existing wires that feed your stock fogs and have them on all 4 at once?

Yes, all four of my fogs work. However, they are controlled separately. The integrated fogs are controller via the OEM switch on the steering column and the switch that I'll post pics of in about an hour or so control the lower accord fogs such that they can only be turned on if the parking lights are on.

If you want, I can PM you my phone # and we can talk this through if your serious about doing it. It was kind of a mess figuring out the wiring and hacking up the dual-relay style accord harness cuz we only need a single relay and I wanted this as clean and streamlined as possible with no extra parts that aren't needed.

3) Having bought the Accord's fogs with the hardness...did you have to splice these and or did you just wired the (+) to the battery and the (-) to the firewall independently so that they go on when you want therefore need to be aware that these will not shut off automatically.

Nope, custom made my own harness using the OEM accord harnes that DEPOT supplied. See above. It's too much for me to type at the moment. I'd give myself a coronary

This is the 1st thread I've read that had actual pictures of what I want but before I go off and start to mess with cutting and making things fit I need a little more feedback on the wiring and you're The Man to ask...

Hi, I briefly looked at the lower grilles last weekend, but could not figure out how they come out. I do have an ASPEC lip installed. Do I just pull them out?

If removing the ASPEC lip is required, what are the steps to remove the ASPEC lip?

The mod you did looks awesome BTW, good job!

After the entire front bumper is removed you will be able too see a set of 8 to 10 clips which need to be depressed (pried upwards or downwards) so that the grills can slide out towards the front painted fascia.

Removing the aspec lip isn't REQUIRED, but after all the hassle I went through trying to make sure I didn't break the grills or scratch the paint on the lip i would recommend it. Its as easy as a few screws/clips and removing some double sided tape and your done.

Thanks man!

pics of accord retrofit switch

Here are some pics as promised of the accord fog switch fit in my TL.

The switch works to turn the fogs on ONLY WHEN the corner lights (and in turn, interior lights) also turned on. This was done by tapping into the parking light wire found behind the dash. There is another thread out there covering where to find this wire. It's pretty easily accessible.

Trimmed the corners slightly to make them more rounded as well as the extreme top and bottom of the switch as it was a little too tall. This is pretty self explanatory for anyone looking to do it. You'll see what required when you get that far

A look at the fog switch:

And the switch at night time:

Gerzand, thanks for the quick and honest reply, right now is about 5am and I'm ready to go off to work in the middle of a blizzard, thank God I have my Rubicon that I bought so that my TL can rest in the garage maybe until Summer, I will indeed PM you with my # once I decide to do this as right now I'm also thinking of doing the group buy for an A-Spec kit and before the wifey decides to use up a bonus I'm receiving in a few days I'm doing one or both mods....thanks, gracias, arigato and merci...

This is a mod I really want! I would like the fogs to be turned on alone, I guess I could just wire them to the fuse box and then ground them. '

What type of angle eyes do you have? How much and where did you get them. I want to clear my headlights soon, paint the inside grey to match my new TL-S tailights, and install angel eyes.

How did you hook up the angle eyes??? I would like to have the angel eyes on alone, but also when the night beams are on.

WOW this will be alot of figuring out and wiring. PLEASE help with a wiring diagrahm.

Fogs, angle eyes, etc. I really thank GOD for such helpfull people like you. I don't have alot of $$$ to pay for installing all these great mods,,, HECK, I am going into DEEP Visa DEBT just buying these things, BUT its what I love!!!

Thankyou Very Much for ALL the help!!! Jeff

I used Umnitza angel eyes. The inverters are a pain to work with but are nice when done. Do yourself a favor and buy a set of higher quality waterproof inverters from vibelights.com .... The ones Umnitza sends will burn out within an hour of use. No joke.

Since I didn't document my rewiring of the harness in completeness I would have a hard time doing it from memory. This weekend when I take my car apart to put some new suspension parts on, i'll try and take a look and see if I can note the colors of some wires and how I wired them. Some High resolution pictures of your harness when you get it would work even better though.

As far as you wanting independent control of the lower fogs without turning on the corner lights too... this is technically possible. I have a new idea that I don't think anyone has tried before which would still keep the feature of turning off the lights when your vehicle is turned off (so as to not drain your battery if forget to turn off the switch) as well as letting them be controlled independently. Wow, i wish I would have come up with this idea before! I'm amazing myself right now

I'll keep it a secret tho until I get a chance to test it. People are goona be envious now!!! j/k

Have a good day!

Andy
