faster is of no importance, as anything over 50km/h nets you a vehicle seizure and license suspension, here.

quicker is nice, but the car loses it's heart and soul and becomes boring to drive to me. *I* don't like DCTs. I know they're fast and wonderful. *I* don't like them. They are built to be efficient, not engaging.

The 6 mpg difference is what C&D actually recorded, not bullshit EPA numbers.

speed, as in up to 160km/h? ok. I'm sure the 6MT pulls just fine. I don't give a squirt about being half a second faster to end up owning a car I hate driving. There's a reason I don't want an R35 either. I hate the transmission. Yes, I've driven it. It's fun for 6 minutes. And then it gets boring.

when you say faster, you mean all out speed. I will never see all out speed with that car. nothing beyond 160km/h. that's 100mph. I don't care how much faster it is beyond that.

when you say quicker, you mean it accelerates faster. I agree, yes, the DSG wins on this, hands down. But it's not everything for me.

the manual R has better fuel economy on the highway than the DSG. I was at the dealership yesterday, looking at the stats. I commute mostly highway, day in, day out, where the speed limit is 100km/h and there is regular enforcement. I don't need to be fast. My 250hp and 240torque TL is plenty fast enough. The 6MT R would be quicker and faster than it, in all regards.

The GTI compromises on a lot of stuff when compared to the R. Stuff you may not see value in, but I do. I like the exhaust pipes, the wheels, the brake calipers, the headlights, etc. of the R. The GTI looks Spartan in comparison. I like the interior better. The seats are nicer. The gauges are better. I don't want a "base" car (I know the GTI isn't base) and chip it to make it as quick as the higher trim car. I've always only owned the top trim of any car, for it's given model year. This is no different. I want my options. Each and everyone of them.

The only improvement I see with the DSG is quicker acceleration, at the cost of driving fun. I grew up driving 127hp Honda civics. I'll take driving fun over acceleration any day of the week.

You just need to accept that what's important to you, isn't important to everyone else. It's ok. I still love you. I swear!

Adam went 6MT R to 6MT Focus ST to DSG Golf and seems to not be regretting it one bit.
That GTI in manual would be a hoot and if you don't "need' the awd...I'd save the 10K for something else too.
