The 3G Ramblings & General Discussion Thread (Trois)
i remember i installed a pair of 10,000 Kelvin hid bulbs in a friends civic si.
we took a test drive and even as a passenger I was squinting my eyes to see the road.
probably harder on driver cuz he actually has to concentrate

Also, make sure you don't mushroom the end of the threaded portion of the ball joint. Put a nut on the threaded portion and make sure it's on there for a good 6-7 threads. On one side I only had the nut threaded on for like 3 threads and it caused me a bunch of headaches, as the threads got lightly damaged from all of the force being applied to the nut.
I didn't have access to a press, so I figured I'd get the LCAs out myself and have a shop push out the old ones and put new ones in place... let me tell you, I don't think I saved much money by the end of it. I should have just taken it to Acura and not have dealt with the trouble.
Oh well. You live, you learn.

Bushings were a bit of a pain. I'm guessing you're talking about the lower control arm compliance bushings, yes? Getting the arms out wasn't all that bad- get yourself a proper ball joint seperating tool (not the fork!)- I bought one for like $20 and no damage to my ball joint boots occurred.

And yeah, those exact ones. Got no problem taking the LCA out and getting them pressed but fuck do I not want to do it. It's not an emergency but always better do it before it becomes one.
I'm more concerned about my CV joint clicking if anything.
Yup, agreed.
Man, I feel for you. I dunno how you do that work without a garage. Especially if it takes more than a day. You're likely also limited with tools- I'm slowly starting to amass a metric fuck ton of them and carrying them up and down is the last thing I want to do. I dunno how you do it.
I know Montreal can be bad with all of the crumbling infrastructure, but the roads are pretty shitty here too. Pot hole season can be a nightmare for 5 months of the year. Once it gets to the start of July, it gets okay, but once those freeze/thaw cycles begin...

I hear you about thaw season. The TL pulls to the right since a little bit now, I think I hit a pothole and fucked the alignment. -_-
Aye yeah I should. My uncle is still out of commission, getting cortisone shot this week if I'm not mistaken. Gonna cost me normal price instead of a $20, if even.
hi guys
got 4 new tires after a minor curb hop.. 600 bucks
no alignment..
1 month later front two tires were gone.. :fuckme:
another 300 bucks... and then 120 for the alignment.
Curb hop and you didn't get an alignment? Sorry man, that's asking for it 10 times more than me
I legitimately feel sorry for the TLX guys. What a piece of junk that car is.

The problem: Too many new gadgets and technology that must mesh seamlessly and operate flawlessly.
The solution: Own 2004 Acura TL that was only on the cusp of the new technological frontier and had nothing but a few easily rectifiable nuisances.

Unless he actually wanted the original NSX to be a 7 person, mommy mobile from the get go. Then it all makes sense
J, you and PB are both right. Yes, the 3G has it's problems, but a good deal of them didn't start showing up until a few years into ownership and being on the road. The TLX isn't even a year old and it has had waaaay too many problems already. A car with 2700 miles on the odometer shouldn't be having suspension woes. Sounds like it has happened to more than one person already also.
Double fool! I wasn't criticizing it. But it would be ignorant to say it is flawless. It is infinitely better than the shit that's out there now, though.
i thoroughly enjoy my 6MT and now that all of the maintenance is up to snuff, I feel I likely won't have to do anything for the next several years, besides fluids.
