Isn't there usually at least 1 place open late? I mean, a plane full of late people will be looking for cars, one of the places should still be open, right?

Rent a car and submit the receipts. You shouldn't be inconvenienced because your work couldn't book you into a place that accommodates scheduled snafus.

Summer break; had to let all the little birdies fly the nest.

Now it's just me and a stack of poorly written essays left to take on this Mandingo of a day.

But at least it's Friday the 13th.

It's like $500 to $800 to ship a car across the country. I've bought two that way. One sight unseen and one after visiting the dealer and making arrangements.

But if you want the adventure (I don't, I suck and am boring), that'd be a fun trip back.

Not bad at all. I only have 2 data points. The first was a private party sale and I contacted one of the big shipping companies (who really just handle logistics and scheduling of various independent operators) and paid for an open transport. The car showed up in a soft side enclosed trailer .

Second one was a dealer sale and they took care of getting the truck to us via whatever contacts they have. Came open truck as expected. I think this one was cheaper because we were able to leverage the dealer who got better rates from shipping so many cars.

Both experiences were pleasant. And considering the time value of money, well worth paying to not be on the road for 3 days just to get the car back home. Just sit and wait a week for the call to meet them at a grocery store or mall parking lot.

After doing it, I don't know why people are so afraid to by cars from anywhere in the country. No reason to stick to just the shady neighborhood dealer when you can more than pay for the transit costs in better prices anywhere in the nation.

OMG just found out my old old good friend is moving back from DC to Hilliard. And on top of that for the time being into his inlaws place. Which is literally in my hood and a 2 minute walk! NASA is letting him telecommute in and then fly back occasionally.

He's a crossfit guy. Now I'll have a real gym buddy again!

2400 is a lot of miles...but it'll be fun routing yourself to things you wanna see on the way back. I say make it a 4 day trip...600 a day isn't too stressful at all...

That's what I was thinking too. It would be an amazing drive. I'm going to test drive a few Audis tomorrow. (TTS, S4, S5)

So here's my problem...

If I want the S5 I'm looking at about 3 year old models. So 2013s. The problem is Audi's warranty is 4 years / 50k miles. Most of the used cars I'm looking at have 40-50k miles. And being a 2013 only have about a year or less of warranty left. Most of the time it's like 6k miles / 8 months. Not even warrantied for a year.

Audi CPO basically adds an additional 2 years / 50k miles making the total warranty 6yr/100k. Plus with CPO you get all the perks. However, on average, I'd say the CPOs are $4-8k more than non CPO. Even cars with warranty left. Audi warranty transfers for a small fee btw. The thing to remember with these cars, or at least what I'm finding, is they aren't like Honda. A new Honda could be bought and then never brought back to the dealer. But these Audi's most of the time they are sold, maintained, repaired, bought and sold again all from one dealer. And they report every oil change to carfax. So you can see the full vehicle history.

I explained all of this to the Mrs and she was cool with me bumping up the price range a bit if that includes CPO.

Thoughts? Edit: And don't give me that standard never buy a euro without a zillion mile warranty talk. If you looked into these cars or looked at all the carfaxes you'd see they are pretty solid. They have no known issues.

I've heard Audi reliability is improving.. but I'm not sold on it. Yet.

Trusting forums isn't worth a can of beans. When I was researching S4s a long time ago, all I'd ever see is the same answer: "as long as you maintain it properly, you won't have any issues." Yes, because whenever a car has something fail, it's always due to a lack of maintenance. Come on. So if you have an electrical gremlin, it must bw because you didn't replace the entire wiring harness, as per the owners manual It was just typical forum bias.

Hey man, if you're comfortable in owning a used Audi without warranty, go for it. You're much braver than I am. It seems you're doing everything you can to get into this car. Baller on a budget. Not criticizing you, but you're doing everything to get into a car, at a lower price point, while throwing caution to the wind.

You can up your budget for CPO, but a 6-8k increase in price isn't a modest bump. It's huge. It seems for the peace of mind you are paying for, you are ultimately compromising on the car you want (eithet more miles, worse condtion, etc). Is it worth maybe saving another year and then jumping on exactly what you want with CPO?

the one S4 manual white I found that was 2013 was 9K miles of 100k warranty...but it was pricey...i'd pay for the CPO for sure.

Or you could get the mustang and save some scratch and be able to do an engine and clutch swap faster than a set of rear speakers in a 3G TL.

Money is not a 'problem'. It just is what it is. I'd rather spend $30k but I can do $40k and it's not an issue.

It's just $34k for one year of warranty or $40k for ~3. Is it THAT important?

Hell I bought the TL CPO...I took it in once for a recall? Maybe twice. (I know...different animal).

I get the feeling chad wouldn't be happy with a mustang. I 5hink he wants the refinement the s5 brings with it.

I'd spring for the CPO if I were in your shoes just because it's Euro..

I know, not what you wanted to hear. I've always loved the styling of Audis like you Chad. The lights.. omgz winnerzzz.

CPO > new/leased > used in my book. It'd have to have at least some sort of warranty.

Well, if money isn't a thing...
then there's your answer. Only you know if the piss of mine is worth the extra cash.

To me, I'd have to have the coverage to go German...just my opinion, not all of them are POS and many probably have no issues...but I've heard/read enough to form my opinion. I also could technically say that money isn't an issue, it's my ability to wrap my head around a certain total number/payment is my problem.

Then again, I'd much rather have $30k spent and split between 3 or 4 used cool cars I can experience and tinker with and pay off little by little. That's my goal, a small paid off army of cool cars!

but I don't care about all the new tech etc...not because I think it's dumb, just because it's not worth the additional premium it costs to have to get a newest car to have the newest tech etc...

I wouldn't buy one totally out of warranty.

I do. I strayed with the Mustang for a minute. I want to go test drive some Audi's tomorrow to compare. But I want class and style...quiet...calm... Not the 'drivers' car.

Ultimately when you look up the numbers... Even with 100+ more hp and ft lbs of torque, and giant fucking brembos, the Mustang barely beats a stock S5 in the quarter and doesn't stop much faster. Plus AWD for the winters here...

I didn't say that quite right. Money matters. It just going up 8-10k won't kill me monthly. I can easily shave 5% off my 401k and more than makeup that difference.
