40 years ago I'm hitchhiking from the Jersey Shore back to college in central PA. I have no issues hitching to the shore. Had been hitching around PA for 3 or 4 years, never an issue. So I'm outside Philly at an exit for the PA turnpike and this guy in a 69 Camaro Z28 stops,


Him, "Where are you headed?'
Me, "To State College."
Him, "I'm going to Harrisburg"
Me, "Great!" and I get in.
Him, "I have to make a stop first, 5 minutes out of the way."
Me, tentatively, "OK."
So he makes a couple turns, pulls into this parking lot at a park.
OK, I get it now...
Me, "Hey, I don't go for guys."
Him, "Do you want a ride to Harrisburg or not?"
Me, "Fuck you dude!" And I start to get out.
He grabs my arm...car has bucket seats obviously.
I pull away, get out, slam the door which shatters the window. He screams, "My window!"
Me, "Fuck your window, and fuck you, you queer, (I kick the door and put a huge dent in it) and fuck your car too!"
I start to walk away...he gets out and acts like he's going to come after me...
Me, "Dude, stay away from me or I'll beat the shit out of you."
He gets back in his car because he sees there is a cop pulling into the parking lot. I wave to the cop and start walking back towards the turnpike...10 minute walk.

Great car, worth $500K now if fully restored....


I hitched back to school in time for Monday morning classes. Hitched for another couple years til I could afford a $500 VW bug, never had another issue.
