Takes a certain type of person to live there. My dad once got mugged with a gun to his head right in front of our house, my brother a gun to his head for his jacket, my mom robbed at her job- at gunpoint like a dozen times, house broken into multiple times, 4 car thefts/break ins and yet, they still refuse to leave. What shit places did you go in NYC? I thought it was relatively clean. 
Because, Queens. 
It's an acquired taste. I've lived there most of my life and even I wouldn't want to live there LOL. After being down south for a few years I even hate to visit. It was great while I lived there but then I saw there was more to live than riding a train to commute shoulder to shoulder with one drug addict who hasn't bathed in years covered in urine on one side and a little bratty child who's mom isn't paying attention and just covered himself in urine. On the seat next to you. Which is connected. True story lol.
