Magnetic tape machine fixer is super fucking niche.
Having an EE background doesn't make anyone uniquely capable to do well in that role.

You're not going to get an EE education in a few weeks, but you probably don't need all that.
Get yourself an EE handbook.. there's several out there.. and get a handbook on circuit analysis
EE's take about 1 years coursework in circuit analysis with a lab.
You can teach yourself what you'll need to know in weeks with discipline.

There's levels to this shit. If it's just fixing hardware shit, you need to learn about the hardware you're fixing.
What's most important is getting all the datasheets and manuals for the machines you're working on (all da schematics).
It has electro mechanical components, servos, plus who knows what kind of old ass logic
You need to learn about what powers them and how they interact.

I'm sure there are already some common issues with the machines.
As long as you have team members who don't want to see you fail, you should be fine.
They should be showing you what to look out for (lessons learned type shit)
If they tryna fuck with crabs, they gon get dealt with shawty

If you're replacing components, finding the right components will be challenging
Need to create a database of typical component failure and a list of vendors who still shelve those components
I'm guessing most of these machines are older than you.. which means components in them.. are no longer around

They probably got bought or absorbed into another company.
Find a datasheet on the parts, that way you can spec out other parts that meet spec.
Some of this shit you'll probably measure and characterize yourself. Shit can be mad interesting.

All that said..
Most important lesson for you right here.. capacitors. They'll kill you.
Stored energy from a cap has killed many. Even if it's unplugged, check the farads and type, calc the depletion
