I'm nursing a hematoma the size a softball on my ribs right now.
Boxing is great, but you'll pick up fundamentals elsewhere
I suggest Muay Thai or Kyokushin Karate for striking
Muay Thai will be more diverse
If you just want to know how to fight and not be a bitch (Taco)
Find a BJJ gym (not school), difference being the diversity of the coaching staff
A BJJ gym should have a Muay Thai and a Wrestling coach at the minimum
Good ones also have a Judo coach to complement rasslin'
I don't suggest a traditional Judo school at your age..
Especially if you've never done a martial art before.
You'll burn out from breakfalls or actually injure yourself.
Judo is great though, the good schools focus on OG judo and not sport judo.
With a good mix of nawaza (ground / submission fighting)
and leg attacks (single / double leg takedowns - illegal in sport judo)
If this is for your kiddo..
I suggest a good traditional MA school
Kyokushin Karate or TKD that isn't a black belt factory.
Traditional MA schools focus on discipline and self-control.
It's a safe environment for you kiddo to expand.
Some BJJ schools have a good kids program, but not all.
Wrestling and Judo are definitely good to get your kids into early.
But at least wait til 7 or 8 would be my recommendation.

We got out of training and as he got into the jeep
I was like.. I didn't know you're a jeep bro?!?!

Our BJJ coach looks at me with that smirk
I laughed, coach walked away laughing
