I could tell something was wrong because it was massively hilly. Like a mountain town. Isn't Florida supposed to be flat? In Louisiana it's flat a a sheet of plywood. You can literally see ten miles ahead, like there is zero texture to the land at all.

Also, their traffic signals were too long for nothing.

They were low too.

Louisiana speed limits are insane in some areas. 65 on highway 61 between Baton Rouge and Prarieville. Gause in Slidell is 40, which is a lot on that type of boulevard m

Meanwhile Floriduh has me going back and forth from 50 to 35 on a two lane highway with nothing on it.

In LA, that would be 55, and never less.

I'd been hearing intermittent "tapping" outside my kitchen window. Typically in the evenings. It sounded like junebugs running into the window or something. But whenever is go check I couldn't see anything. But usually there were a bunch of lizards hanging out on the window screen. So I just figured maybe they were eating bugs and smacking the window when the did.

Fast forward a week or two and I get a call at work from my neighbor saying that his wife was hearing electrical pops coming from my AC compressor. Doh. Shut it off remotely from my phone (hey! Smart thing integration plus-column) and check it out after work. Nothing. No tapping/popping/noise when it runs.

'saaaaallll good, man.

This morning, getting ready to go out to iHOP (because we ritzy and high class) for breakfast and I hear popping. Shitman.

Turn it off and go eat. Come home and take a peek. (Shut off breakers first this time and everything)

That's what was the polarity flipper plug for the compressor vent fan. Replacement fan I installed last year. That plug is what changes it from a pusher/puller fan depending on it's installation application.

It was, to put it lightly, absolutely fucked.

So yeah, the tapping I was hearing was that thing slowly shitting the bed to death.

Only at night or when it was raining, because of the increase in humidity. And of course the only time I was able to go listen for the problem with enough light to see, it was in the heat of the day and it was dry, so no noise.

I hate electric shit

Yeah, the rubber connector charring.

The connections were still intact going through, so the fan still ran.

I think the Genesis of the problem was the zip tie that held it in place broke from UV exposure and then the connector was able to sag down toward the the fan blades. I'm not sure if it would make contact physically, or if it was just close enough to short through the connector to the fan blades.

Eventually it would have popped the main breaker, or just burn the plug and open circuited the fan, which would cause an interlock switch in the coolant like to trip.

Electric stuff sucks

Oof. Are you calling someone in to repair that or are you experienced enough to tackle it yourself (I would have no clue)...?

You can't even clean a smudge on your screen
I'm not sure you're qualified to even call a tech at this point
Probably have an HVAC tech over to fix a clogged toilet

I don't dirty my hands.

Thought I had updated that the screen smudge is now fixed?

Used a product I bought online. Worked like a charm.

the fact that he snipped the wires to that connector at the base like that tells me he was keeping enough slack in mind and he's already wired a new one in but this time
used something sturdier than a tie wrap to hold it together along with di-electric grease to keep moisture and eventual arcing out.
