Man, I was checking the listings earlier this week to see what my hood was looking like. There's a guy a couple streets over that I've known about; got popped for soliciting a 14 year old over the internet (side note, I wonder if Chris Hansen was there? ) and he's still the only blip, and it's pretty benign.
But there is a section of 'burbs down south that is like a registered offender Haven or something. Coincidentally, or not, it's also the part of town that has higher than average incidents of meth house explosions. And also, black people don't go there after dark.
Fuckin' cesspool.
Sugar land right? right.
You want me to come over. Maybe that dude solicits Majofo (13 yr old teen dream).
Then maybe he takes a one-way trip to the flower gardens. Probably.
Scary prospects to have to think about that stuff...there is one guy in our neighborhood that is a little off...worst part is he has 2 young daughters of his own.

that would be ironic since we'd have the same name.
actually...he has the same last name as little J and the kids...so in the past her daughters would tell her kids, my daddy says if he and your mom get married you wouldn't even need to change your name.
Needless to say I stopped being so friendly to him...mean muggin ass...I'm glad her kids were raised to look like they'll cut you if you say anything stupid.
Yeah, she's good in a non-traditional Classical sense.
Similar to timepieces, if I were to be a snob about it though, her pedigree and background is...not as accomplished despite her mainstream popularity. So, you tell me if this equates to success but if we're talking about Classical snobbery, it's mediocre. USC is a good music school as I had considered going there to learn from John Perry before I went after money instead. Still, it's not a Julliard, Eastman, Peabody, Indiana, or similar...so...dunno...it's good but not l33t.
For cellists, Yo-Yo Ma obviously comes to mind as the God. But, you have Gutman, Isserlis, and Rostropovich as well. Guo's just alot easier on the eyes.
Who here was force-fed Classical music during bedtimes, studytime, and dinner time?
Me.
Who here practiced for nearly 3 hours a day after skoo? Me.
Who here learned from one of the greatest pedagogues of the 20th century? Me.
I suppose I could take a pic of my piano book shelf to give you barbarians an idea but that's just bragging. And I never brag. I'm just a freaking entitled snob.
Genhart was my mentor's mentor. Genhart studied under Ferruccio Busoni, the great pianist and composer at the turn of the 20th century...Busoni studied with Carl Reinecke, who a great pianist in his own right, studied from Robert Schumann, Felix Mendelssohn, and Franz Liszt...I could end there, but if we keep going further, Liszt received training from Carl Czerny who learned from Mr. Ludwig van Beethoven.
So, yeah, I have a pretty snobbish lineage in my apprenticeship.
Heard about Tina Guo when she was touring with Hans.. I really wish i had a chance to see him live.. he's by far one of my favorite composers
There was a time when his music all sounded too similar...I won't lie, they are a guilty pleasure though and I think he's evolved quite a bit. I found his composition from Hidden Figures and The Little Prince to be marvelous. Thomas Newman is also a fantastic one if you're into movie music.

Well that's how I feel about JW.. but people LOVE him so i dare not speaketh such blasphemy
But you have a point though.. You can't really unhear the Pirates motif or Inception
I envy those that were given the privilege of private music lessons.. My parents never had the money for it so my music 'career' was limited by only how much I knew/was able to pick up on my own. Fiancee took piano lessons since she was 4 and then stopped in HS. She then went into music performance for clarinet but switched to music education and is now an elementary music school teacher. I live through her vicariously
When his longtime collaborator, the director Steven Spielberg, showed him Schindler's List, the composer felt it would be too challenging to score. He said to Spielberg, 'You need a better composer than I am for this film.' Spielberg responded, 'I know. But they're all dead!'
A lot of fuckery in here yesterday!
Shiet...humblebragging a $410k custom built?!!??!
I don't want to live in SoFla forever so Maj's Texass plan might actually work out for me.
Custom built? hahahahahaha.. more like cookie cutter built. Then again, I built a bungalow and no one builds those anymore... they are a rarity. When I built mine, I was the only one in Edmonton who went forward with it... and it had a major design flaw that didn't become apparent until construction started But they took care of it, after 6 weeks of arguing.
It's custom built in terms of the finishes... I got to choose everything inside/outside, but the house itself is nothing custom. I dunno how it is Florida, but here, it's common place to buy a cookie cutter house.
