The 3G Ramblings & General Discussion Thread
The government mandated clean air act is pushing auto-makers to boost mpg.
No spare + jack + extra equipment = less weight / more mpg.
Just another reason the government needs to stay the fuck out of business.

no sir, not by taking off 20-30 lbs, you wont feel a thing....i didnt
its like telling, hey when I dont have groceries in my car, i feel the car is faster and i get more MPG...
I stripped the whole trunk, (~150lbs) and i felt a slight difference....i stripped the whole rear seat and seat belts and carpet and trim (~250lbs) and totalled to 400 and felt a ton of difference....
as i said, stripping off 20-30 lbs wont make a difference, unless your butt is very sensitive...

I can definitely feel a difference in an empty tank and a full tank of gas.
Maybe I will take the spare out.
Ideally I'd like to have another wheel/tire that's on my car for a spare. So if I did have a problem it would be like nothing happened. Donuts are ugly lol

with just the front and rear 5mph hour bumpers off ~30lbs, car became more nimble.
you're forgetting your roots, sir!!!!
roots= inaccurate.
why did inaccurate start that thread in the first place?
because he noticed an immediate gain with just taking off a little and then progressed into A LOT.
this also relates to why auto manufactures are not putting in the spare any more.
75lbs is SIGNIFICANT enough to not include them any more.

Austin, tank is kinda different...
full tank = 17 gallons which is 6.1lbs x 17 = 103.7lbs
empty tank (when the light comes on you have 3 gallons left) = 18.3 lbs
totally empty (when the range goes to ZERO you have 1.3-1.5 gallons left) = 7.93 lbs
so the difference is upwards of 90lbs

i did start off with the trunk, as I thought who sees inside it right....stripped the trunk off, start carrying only 4-5 gallons of gas....so i instantly lost ~150-200lbs and was like "WOW"
all am saying is car markers love that law as they can pocket more $$$...30 lbs IS NOT GOING TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN HP/MPG....

Justn, just for u....i checked my spreadsheet again (weight loss sheet)
34.00 Spare tire delete
23.00 Trunk panels
11.00 Miscellaneous stuff in the trunk
2.00 Removed 12V air pump
1.90 Rear Diffuser plastic panel
1.50 Trunk damper
1.20 Trunk panel over latch
so total of 74.6 (if my math) is right is what you save when you empty/strip down your trunk....you will prolly save only 40-45lbs if you delete the spare tire/jack/etc
also we all know, all the cars we are talking about are FWD...the weight on the rear matters but it messes up the handling...the TL 6MT comes with 60-40 weight balance and the 5AT with 62-38....but taking the weight off the rear, now the weight bias really messes up the handling....
make sure, you strip the weight off the nose of the car as well, as that will help with the handling....

I prefer my spare actually. Around here it is usually 45 miles or better between towns and about 70% of the area is limited or no cell coverage and if you leave your car on the side of the hwy all windows will be busted out within 48 hours.
Gotta love the MS13

Majofo, I dont deny that 1lb makes a difference....all am saying is that the difference it makes is sooo minuscule that an average customer wont feel anything and you wont get any improvements in MPG/HP....
Yes, the carmakers like that law coz now they charge you $$$ to add spare tire and jack which should have been included in the $$$ itself...
