lol the color of oil doesnt matter

its whats in the oil.
and you cant see or feel whats in the oil.

facts are facts.
M1 EP has a low HTHS rate.
redline has one of the highest HTHS rates.

I definitely dont want my oil to sheer at high temps.

about HTHS, yes Redline has higher HTHS, but the minute you get 5w-30 of mobil1 instead of 5w-20 redline, you get the similar HTHS....

the oils job is to clean.
some oil will get dark as soon as you pour it.
others wont, as you found out.

FTFY. Oils #1 most important job is to lubricate all of the moving parts of the engine. "Cleaning" an engine shouldn't even matter if you use the proper grade of oil, a reliable filter, and stick to a strict OCI.

How an oil smells, looks, or tastes has no bearing what its actually doing in your engine. If you want to know how well it is standing up to your driving and how well it is protecting your engine, send a sample of it to Blackstone so they can analyze it and tell you exactly what is going on in your engine.

Just noticed my activity dropped 8 points. That explains why I lost 1/2" in my peepee.

And all this time I thought it was because of the cold

you change words very quickly Justin...

As Morgan said "How an oil smells, looks, or tastes has no bearing what its actually doing in your engine."

yes, I never said the color of the oil will tell you your engine condition....it tells the oil condition....test of the oil will tell you the engine condition....

when you smell oil and smell burnt smell, it basically means stick a fork in the engine/transmission, its done !!!

when the oil color changes from bright color to a dark maroon/brown color very quickly it indicates something....so just saying by seeing the color/smell of the oil after usage you can determine whats going on inside....

I check my oil every time I get gas and within 4500 miles the oil has become very dark...i remember mobil1 and even penn plat were still bright colored at 5000 miles....

so am not impressed as am paying 2 or 3 times as much for Redline and seems like the oil is not lasting as well....again this is just me and my theory....what the hell do i know about oil anyway

This is wrong. Redline acts as a "detergent" more so that most oils, so your oil will be darker than it would be using other oils. This only means that it is cleaning your engine better than others.

^^^ JJH, yes the Redline does have cleaning particles but it does not act like a "detergent" and as Morgan said if you follow a strict OCI and use quality oil, you should never have the need of using any "oil cleaners"....the reason Redline is preferred more than off the shelf oils is because of its higher HTHS which means the oil will not break down under higher operating temps....

however i do understand the color of the oil doesnt give a 100% picture of the conditions....some get dark some dont....but darker colored oil just freaks me out and more so when my ECU dropped the oil % to 0% within 3000 miles....

if IHC was in this thread, he would prolly smack me on the head and put some sense back in there....and i would go back to using Redline...but for now I have my mind set on Penn Plat or Mobil1 EP....

Of all the wrong info presented, I'll pick on this since no one has..

Almost all M1 products have PAO, EP just has more. Therefore all M1 products are Group IV under the classification of PAO content.

Im sure there is a DIY in the garage that you can follow. As a first timer, it shouldnt take you longer then 6 hours start to finish. You might be able to ask around in Regions for some assistance as well. That would save you at least $250 since most shops will charge you by the book.
