How many already have a 07 FOB? Also, how many have tried to modify it already?

FLBusa, will you be getting blanks yourself or would you like people to purchase them and send them to you? If both will be done, which will be more cost effective for us?

I have it, only modifications are to get the damn small screw out lol. I was going to send it to my dad to do his magic, but if FLBusa already has all this prepared all this I'll show the board some support and give my dad a vacation.

Just a heads up for those wanting a machined '07 key...

I can't do any kind of business here on Acurazine.com without the permission of whom ever owns and operates this site. If anyone knows who this person is... please let me know. I don't want to step on any toes.

With that said...

I don't have a price just let but I can honestly say that it will be less than $40.00 to machine a key. Without a custom cutter and tooling it takes well over an hour to cut one.

I will make a post with all the details as soon as I have things squared away with the site admin's and have everything ready to go.
I want to be able to get the job done in a reasonable time and at a reasonable price so bear with me. I know some of you are real excited. Me Too.

If you already have a key in hand...
I will cut it for you. However... if you've already opened it up, stripped out screws, cut it, tried melding a key to it or compromised the key in any way... please don't ask me to cut it for you. It will be a major hassle for me and you probably won't like the way it turns out. So when I'm ready... I'll contact the first 10 people that have already PM'd me that have keys in hand.

Right now I plan on buying something like 10 - 20 keys from my dealer and machining them. I'm not interested in making a profit off of the keys... I just need to be compensated for my time so... If a key costs me $52.00 out the door... I'll only add the cost of machining (and shipping) to the key and that's what it'll cost.

If I have some time today I will cut my key, take pic's and post my progress.

Wish me luck.

Pete

To be abundantly clear...

I will provide only a post machined '07 key blank.

By that I mean that I will machine grooves and slots etc. into the '07 key blank so that the key can be cut and or programmed by a dealership or bonded locksmith.

I'm not a dealer nor am I bonded so I can't legally create a key with your key form on it be it machined or grafted. I also can't program the key for you not only because of the reason mentioned above but for the simple fact that I'd need your car to do so.

I've been quoted $35.00 for a local locksmith to come out and cut the key and program it. Others have been quoted $150.00 by dealers.

See... the bottom line here is that if you were to buy an '07 switchblade key or an '04 thru '06 key for that matter... you'd still need to get it cut and programmed. I'm just turning an '07 key blank into an '04 thru '06 key blank.

The rest is up to you.

Pete-

For those with the 07 remote already, would you expect to receive the whole un-messed with remote or just the blank to machine down?

Great work!

The whole un-messed with remote with key attached. Just like you bought it.

There's no need to open it up for me to machine it.

Busa, great progress. I for one am really pleased you managed to get this far into the project. Thanks again.

Now a few questions:

1) Have you already taken your first 10 PM's? If so are you planning on taking more later in the future? And if not, how will you be taking the first 10 pm's? Another thread maybe?

2) I have 2 keys, both the original mem1 and mem2 - now what do i need to do exactly for you to accept my keys? Just send the key as it is? Do i need to do anything? Like, do i need to remove the plastic casing or anything for that matter?

3) Just to confirm if i understood you properly, you'll be sending a blank key (already cut) with the switch blade unit? Or just the key alone which then we'd have to buy the unit to fit the key in?

Thanks again for your update, we here at AZ really appreciate it.

right now you just said that you would only sell the blanks and none of the electronics. If presay we did want the electronics and payid in full upfront, could we have it still done? Otherwise, when we buy the electronics, we will have an spare 07 blank to do nothing with, unless we can send it to you for a refund of some sort (machining+key blank cost - the blank we send you)

Sounds fair to me. I am sure you are up to your ears in emails / messages. If you are doing anymore let me know. I will get a key and I can have it cut at a dealer local.

Thanks much,

Well... Here goes...

Just a little update on the key. I found out the the '07 key isn't stainless steel although at first glance you could be mistaken. It's definitely brass, just more silver in color. Probably a higher tin content or possibly some nickel. Either way the material is very free machining and the machined finish is just stunning.

Here's how my afternoon went...

First I skimmed the 07 key to the proper thickness.

Next came the grooves. Without a special cutter these take forever.

The notch and small step go pretty quickly.

This is as far as I can test for today. The key goes into the door lock just as smooth and easy as a factory key.

Same goes for the ignition. The car immediately recognized that there was an immobilizer chip in the '07 key as it let me insert it without having to place my original key next to the lock. With the aluminum prototype the lock wouldn't release the c*ckblocker feature until I held my '06 key up next to it.

Fits both ways.

Tomorrow I'll see if I can get a locksmith to come out and cut and program my key.

Cheers all...

Today has been a very very good day.

FLBusa where do we send the key fob? Would it be easier to send it to you or for you to get it? Have you figured out how much it would be if we send you the keyfod and you mill it? Or how much it would be total if you buy it?

excellent work!

not sure if this has been asked before:

after the 07 key is cut and ready for locksmith, do we still need to transfer the 04-06 chip to 07?

Find someone with an '04+ TL and see if your key fits in their lock. That would be the first thing to try.

Salem (OR) Acura has the keys for 38.15

I guess we could start a list of places that have lower priced keys if people don't want to call around.

Please Read...

I am not taking orders yet.

I do not know how much it will cost.

I do not know how much shipping will be, etc, etc.

All I know right now is that the '07 key that I've machined fits into the lock and the ignition.

The last and final test will be when I get a locksmith to cut and program my key.

If that works... I will move ahead...

Patience Grasshoppa's

I'm still really confident that it'll work. Right now it takes close to 3 hours of careful machine work to cut a key.

I want to... and will make sure that everyone that wants a key cut will get one.

Thanks for all the well wishes and congrats.

I'm feelin' a lotta love.

But...

It's just going to take another week before I can hit the ground running.

and one last thing...

You can always count on me to keep you posted.

FLBusa, truly amazing work. I salute you, sir.

I hope that you can add one more person to your list.

Since I'm kind of late to this party, please bear with me while I recap the procedure:

1. I purchase an 07 KEY, IMMOBILIZER (Driver 1) from the Acura eStore for about $35. If I wish, I can also buy the Driver 2 key for another $75. I don't understand why Acura charges more for Driver 2, but whatever.

2. I send the 07 blank key to you at an address pre-arranged by PM. The keys need to be completely untampered with. Question: do I send a check at that time for your labor?

3. You machine the 07 key to the proper thickness and shape to fit the 04-06, complete with the notches and grooves as shown in the pictures in post #457, and you send it back to me.

4. I take my modded 07 key ... where? This is where I get confused. I lost my '05 keys and it cost me a fortune at the stealership to get a replacement set. (Transmitter $92.63; Key Immobilize $45.34, Labor $130, Getting Screwed, PRICELESS). Lembowski said he found a locksmith to do this for $30. Does that mean I could have bought my 05 key at the stealership and had a locksmith program it for $30 last summer? I may have to kill myself ....

Anyhow, I am sorry to be so stupid here, but if someone could take a moment to explain this to me I would be very grateful.

Dude you have at least four questions on page 19.

Please don't send me any keys yet.

I still have to make sure it works 100%

I don't want to make promises I can't keep.
