Hi, I have an acura TL that I bought a month ago which has been having an issue that popped out twice. For the last 2 weeks, after I start the car in the morning and reverse it out onto the drive way, after switching to Drive, the car does not move even though I am pressing the accelerator (I can see the engine reving up though). But both times, after I switch gears to neutral and back to drive, the car works perfectly fine for the rest of the day. The check engine light is on. The current mileage of the car is 180,000 miles.

I brought it to a dealership and got the corresponding codes from the dealership: P2243, P0134, P2251, P2237, P0848. The dealership told me that it would be necessary to replace the entire transmission as is quoting me $5.8k for the job. However, when I bought the car, the only issues that where brought by a different mechanic was a faculty O2 sensor and needing to change the piston and rack. So, I was wondering if the diagonsis by the dealership right or am I getting scammed?

Some external factors that mind come into play: The 2 times this has happened, I wasn't driving for a couple of days, and I am living in the midwest and the weather has started getting cold.

Can you do you own work on the car?

 

If it's only experiencing issues upon the shift into gear, maybe its the transmission range switch?
