2004 vs 2005 - Something's missing

I read that only two changes were made from the 2004 model to the 2005 model. Why is it then that the pictures from Acura's website depict a new addition to the roof of the vehicle? I see a fin on the 05 (likely a radio antenna) that doesn't exist on the 04. I've got an 04, and want the fin. I've checked their website, but I can't find it as an add-on.

Can anyone shed any light?

I have an 04 and mine has a fin towards the back of the roof, I believe it's for the XM Sat radio.

I'm not sure what "fin" you speak of. I just went to the acura website, and the 05 TL exterior shots look identical to the 04 pictures. Here is an example:

Can you provide a pic of what you are talking about? And the antenna in the picture above is the XM antenna.

Well that would explain it then. I guess I don't have XM radio because I'm in Canada, so therefore, no antenna. For some reason, I thought they all came with XM radio, regardless of whether you could use it or not...

Ah. Mystery solved. And here I was wondering how a 04 TL owner could miss the XM antenna that was on their TL...

The BMW 5-series has this weird shark fin satellite antenna design - ugly - almost as ugly as the rest of the car, with its Dame Edna headlights - every time I see one and the owner is looking around with a "like what i have smugness as if he has something, i laugh out loud; the TL is a Ferrari GTO by contrast.

Everyone that has seen my new TL has made this comment: "It looks just like the new 5-series BMW".

I don't know how to react. The way I guess I look at it is the TL looks and feels just like the BMW, for half the price. I guess I should be happy.

Supposedly both XM and Sirius are in negotiation to start doing business in Canada. I'm guessing that Canadian content laws would be a problem for the music channels.

I think the new 5 series is the slickest looking car on the road. There's nothing like it's flowing curves on the outside and inside. It is different, but I think it's stunning.

Ugh... you may dislike another car design but just because the car is more expensive than yours is doesn't mean the driver is smug.

He wasn't taken out of design. He was promoted.

And I must admit, after my initial "FUGLY" comments, I have become accustomed to the new 5. It's not so bad looking at all. (I haven't changed my mind about the FUGLY U.S. Honda Accord, however.)

I'd take the new 5 over the TL anyday, if I could afford a 530. The 525 shouldn't even exist.

I really like the new 5 series until i get to the back end. Its just too in your face, i don't think the new accords rear is the most attractive, but it doesn't stand out like the 5. For some reason i really like the simple rear of the last gen M5...but i have no desire to own a bmw, so i guess it doesn't matter a whole lot

I bought my TL because I thought it looked like the BMW 5-series. Both look beautiful. That BMW smugness might be a "maybe I should have bought one of those" looks.

You'll see a "Shark Fin" on the upcoming '05 Acura RL. No modest lil bump like the TL's, its a fin for sure!

Same here. On the other hand, the interior is very spartan for my taste.

I wouldn't even take the 545. Just not into the looks. The "M" I would take no matter how ugly!

Maybe this is the reason that Sirius stock (SIRI) has jumped up about 50% in less than a month. Something's up...

Geeze...I've got the '04...it has the (fin)...and I would rather have a clean roof...it's not as ugly as the BMW fin, but still looks like an "add-on"....each to their own I guess!! I wish they could have hidden the antenna like they did with the navi antenna.

Regarding XM in Canada: XM works great in the flat lands of Southern Ontario (been there, done that). However the satellites are over the equator, about 22,000 miles above the earth, so hills, dense trees, buildings and other objects create much more opportunity for interference in the Great White North. New England hills are quite good at cutting off the signal, so parts of Canada could be much worse.
