2004 tl A-Spec or 2005 tl

i'm trying to decide on a 2004 type-s or a basic 2005 tl. i've heard something about the 2005 having an advantage with the clutch or something like that, i don't remember. i'm getting either one used and they both have good miles and the prices for both are close to each other. which one should i get?

No such thing as a 2004 type-s. Do you mean A-Spec??

If one of them has the manual tranny, go with that one. If not, go with the newer one.

the big question is do you plan on modding? If yes then def go with the aspec. that way your already ahead of the game.

riplee has a good point but if what you said about the 05 is true maybe you can just add a few aftermartket transmission parts to close that advantage gap? plus you will have the aspec suspension with the 04 too

can you post a link or photos of the cars? The 05 TL has only a rumored advantage over the 04's in regards to automatics. Some claim that it has new oil channels or something of the sort to help it last longer. Nothing has really been confirmed by anyone nor has hard evidence been brought to light.

As far as 6MT, test drive both cars and make sure they are both good. The TL has a self adjusting clutch so you won't know when it's about to go out or not, the only time you will know is when it's almost done with and can't adjust itself anymore.

Do any of the cars have navigation? both 6spds? The A-Spec package is worth quite a bit of money (800 for body kit, 300 for spoiler, 1000-2000 for rims, 750 for suspension, 350 for steering wheel, 100 for brakes (N/A if 6spd). Be sure it's a complete A-Spec package before going off of this. The A-spec suspension will allow the car to sit lower by .75 to 1 inch and have a firmer ride. The Steering Wheel will be black with blue stitching and have silver leather portions by the 9 and 3 hand-grips.

my best option right now without having to go through some kind of dealer is for a basic 2004 tl. i'm liking the price on another 2004. the guy has his ad posted as a TL type-s. hopefully i'll be able to get something this weekend or within the next couple of weeks. it'll be a replacement for the tsx that got totaled about a month ago

i don't have pictures of the cars but none of them are MT, all auto. they do have navigation in the ones that i picked out.

http://sandiego.craigslist.org/csd/cto/1760637957.html this is the one that i could get as early as sunday.

http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...er_id=65326459 is another choice

http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...standard=false is the last option that i have

I noticed they're all different colors.
Choose the one with the color you want or like the most and lowest mileage possible.

i really like the white one. the one off of craigslist is easiest to get but mileage is high compared to the ones from autotrader. the autotrader postings look like a better buy.

Just to let you know, if the car is close to 105k it's going to need it's water pump, timing belt, etc. changed.

So keep that in mind.

damn, thanks for the info. i guess i'll try my luck with the white 05. do you know how much the total cost would be to get everything changed that needs to be changed when the car nears 105k?

from the links you provided id ignore the craigslist one and go for the auto trader ones. i started with craigslist also but my friend told me about autotrader and i ened up finding a much wider selection and better deals overall. maybe you can comment on the ad about the 2004 "type S" not actually being a TypeS and talk the price down some more. But if white is a must have like it was for me, then by all means go for the white one.

Just from a cursory examination, it seems as it's neither a Type-S (doesn't exist for 04), OR an A-spec (no front lip, no aspec wheels, likely no suspension / steering wheel).

I'd def. talk the price down on that one if you go that route.

if you get it done at the dealership, i think it can run close to $1k

Those are both base. I'd go with 05 WDP TL - hands down.

Or actually take your time, and find something you'd really enjoy like an 07 Type S

You don't have to go to the dealership for the 105k service.

Someone I know from Oklahoma drove all the way to Houston to save over $500. It only cost $650 for the full 105k service. All OEM parts of course.

From the few pictures, the white one has def. been painted, the front bumper grille is white when it should be grey. But also it looks to be modded since the CF on the doors are different (probably overlays). It may have been a previous acuraziner's ride.

The GREY 04 on autotrader is Def. a full A-Spec car, almost a 5K option when purchasing! I like this one a lot, but a few more pics such as of the interior and better ones of the exterior would be nice.

The silver one looks like it's been through hell and back. The front bumper is peeling and so is the Rear! The front seat are is a bit of a mess, however the rear seats look nice. The headlights will need some work to make them look better.

IMO the grey 04 is the best bet, however those are not the A-spec rims. I'd ask the dealership if they could swap them out for some factory ones.

He hasn't bought the car. Therefore, he hasn't suffered any damages and has no basis for suing anyone.

the mileage on the 04 is pretty close to what i had on my 04 tsx. my situation is that the tsx got totaled so i figured why not get a tl with the insurance money. i dont want to deal with payments. i got a good amount back from the car but i lagged on releasing it from the body shop and they charged over-storage fee and it brought down how much insurance was giving me by $4,000. i'll definitely look into the 04 from autotrader. i dont like the rims either but not much i can do right now since its coming from a private seller

i'd say.. keep shopping around. from the time i saved up for a down payment, to the time i drove my TL off the dealer lot was a time frame about 3-4 months in-between for me. hopefully it won't take you that long though haha. finding a car with low mileage, the right exterior-interior color, the right options (navi), and the right price.. to me it was well worth the wait. goodluck!

I'm going to help you here.

http://sandiego.craigslist.org/csd/ctd/1757429869.html

6spd with nav, tint, aspec wheels, lip, 2010 nav disc which is like $200. for 13.5k in your neighborhood. No miles listed so I'm always weary about that but you should check it out. Seems like a good deal to me if it's got under ~85k miles.

That may have potential. Need more pics and not one of a Type-S interior.

Either way OP, I'd keep looking. TLs are now turning up everywhere...

some of these look as though they have been modified, however slightly , i would never purchase a vehicle that has been touched by someone like myself because it has probably been tossed around a bit, look for a car that was driven by an old lady, that's what i try to do
