2004 TL Grille

Hey everybody. I'm looking to buy the new 04 TL, but don't particularly like the grille. Does anybody know a website that sells replacement grilles for the TL? I "google'd" it, but didn't find much of anything. Please help!

You guys are nuts!! I'll chaulk it up to youth, but the grille on the TL is beautiful!!!! One of the best parts of the car IMO....especially on the darker colors.

I'm older than you, but I just don't understand all the "Pimping" and aftermarket stuff that goes on around here. I know I'll probably offend a bunch of people, but I think half the crap you guys do to these otherwise awesome cars looks horrendous!!

For example:

The TL is too small a vehicle for rims over 18"
Blacking out the windows makes it look like a drug dealer's car
Removing the badging is just plain silly
and adding all kinds of wood and different colored lights makes the car look like a Pimp machine. You may as well wear a purple suit and hat while driving!!

Anyway, sorry for the rant...I just think the TL is nice as is. If I want blue neon lights, I'll go to a nightclub....

EMF213....I'm not looking to "pimp" my ride. I just think the TL grille is a little boring. The other car I was considering before buying the TL was the Infiniti G35. The grille on that thing is sweet. Nothing "pimp" about it, just classy. That's all I'm looking for. I wasn't really looking for a neon blue dancing girl grille, just something slightly less boring. Thanks for the input though.

I debadged my car. Not b/c I think it looks cool (IMO it is a cleaner look). Besides, I know what kind of car I drive, if I wanted to advertise I'd work for Verizon Yellow Pages....oh wait, I already do.

To me, it falls along the same lines as those guys driving down the street with the HONDA or MUSTANG sticker splashed across the windshield. To each their own I guess.

Always remember, everyone has different taste. I "pimp" my car because I don't want my car looking like all the others.

I disagree with you on tinting windows. I think it really improves the look of the car and it's functional! It's 100' where I am and I have to park outside. My car is extremely hot when I get in it!

The other reason to tint, is so that all windows look the same. My last car was an 03 Nissan Murano, the back windows were tinted dark and the front not tinted at all. That just looks silly. Gotta be uniform.

Have to disagree with emf213 on at least a few items.

IMO, age has nothing to do with it.

I live in Phoenix, about a quarter mile from the sun. Tinting is the rule, not the exception. It's tint or die.

About debadging, I prefer to personalize my cars. The badging is just a bunch of clutter to me. Just the Acura logo on the deck lid is enough. Anyone who cares already knows the model and the engine size. I have been peeling my cars for 30 years.

I, too, don't object to the TL grille, but a nice black mesh would be very distinctive. Something like the treatment on the S-Type Jag R model would be my pick.

How nicely could this have been summed up!!!! All of these are my thoughts too. It's unfortunate that such a classy car can get turned into something from the Fast & Furious or a pimpmobile.

That said, I think the grill is one of the nicest features of the car - clean, yet distinctive. Perhaps a mesh would look good too, but I am WAY cool with what they have. As far as debadging, I don't understand that whole thing. As I mentioned on another thread, I think it "dumbs down" the look of the rear end.

But as was so aptly put by 1Acura - to each his own. Although I do I agree that most of the changes that folks do are age-related .... not all, but most.

Some kinds of cosmetic mods are age-neutral, like debadging, and some mods aren't entirely cosmetic, like tinting in a sunny climate. Most purely cosmetic mods (examples: oversize bling-bling wheels, lowering, spoilers and other body parts) are a generational thing, though. Few people over 30 go in for them. I could get all psychological on the possible reasons for that (e.g., younger people haven't fully formed their self-image yet, and so have a greater need to "express their individuality" through their automotive avatars) but it's a subject that people will just have to agree to disagree on. I cringe when I see a car with perfectly good styling, or the the case of the TL, superior styling, loaded down with cosmetic ... stuff. But, it's not really my problem. It's not my car, and if I don't like it, I can just look the other way.

BTW, cosmetic mods are not limited to moderate-priced cars like the TL. If you want some amusement, stop by the forum for the new E-type Mercedes at forums.mbworld.org ... you will see people discussing the same type of mods for cars that cost $55K and up. Why I'm familiar with that forum, and why I'm hanging around this one, is another story altogether.

just because a car is tinted all around doesnt make them look like a drug dealer!!! what if a person can't handle the bright light during night time??? or just simply wants shade during the day? who knows?? my car is tinted all around... but its not tinted because im a drug dealer, its tinted because i hate the sunlight during the day, and i hate bring lights at night shining from behind!!

Really? Did you like the car in the Acura brochure? How about the commercials? In each of these the car sports tinted windows. In fact almost all car advertisements tint the windows of the cars. It simply looks better, and on top of that keeps the car cooler during the summer (a real benefit here in FL)

If you don't like it fine, but don't make a stupid comment that it makes the car look like a dealers car. Last time I checked I wasn't a dealer!!!!

Hey! Who told you drug dealer tint their car? I do not have any tint on my car.

Also, adding wood to the car takes you more close to the nature.

Now stop this and do not let this thread get

yankee, let us know once you do the grill job.

Dude, i agree with all of that asian sticker gang crap. I also think that tint make you look wiggerish, but I have to say that I still would like tint, I love the silvery tint that ACURA does and I know that clear is "Classy" this is just a matter of age. Oh and by the way, the removing of the badge is awesome! I am taking mine off just want to know how and not scratch the paint.

I'm getting mine tinted tomorrow. I just like tint to keep the car cool in the summer since I have the ebony leather. I won't get it done too dark (35%) since in NY we have tint police who would rather pull over people with dark tint on thier cars and mean no harm to anyone rather than go fight real crime. Tint also serves as a safety feature in accidents as it holds the glass together and also would deter a thief from breaking ur windows to snatch stuff out of the car. For the record, I ain't no drig dealer. LOL.

Very well stated!! I agree with your psycho-analysis of younger people. I also know that "pimping" and aftermarket mods are done on everything from Hyudais to MBs.
Some of the stuff that people do to a beautiful Mercedes' is so rediculous and laughable I just have to shake my head...
There's actually a kid that works for my company who has a brand new E320 (a beautiful car by the way) which he completely ruined!! He's got the windows blacked out, big PHAT rims, etc... I don't know whether to laugh or cry when I see this car. I do know what to do when I see him though...I LAUGH; because he thinks he's cool and I think he's an idiot! lol

It's not a stupid comment...It's just one man's opinion. I understand that you might want to tint the glass if you live in a hot climate. But, I also said "blacking out" the windows. There's a difference between a moderate tint and black! I don't believe any of the cars in the brochure have completely blacked out windows.

Aaaugh! The painted grill makes everything look blue, and not a good blue like ABP. Here's some help.

Tinting and Pimping

I don't get into all the so-called "pimping" either but my much younger next door neighbor talked me into trying tinting my TL for more the benefits and not the look.

I did get some comments from family, friends, co-workers, etc about the drug dealer look but I love how much nicer the car is to drive now. It stays cool inside even on super hot days and sitting in the sun.

The only problem I have now is in less than 3 months all of the windows have scratches on them now and I don't put the windows down much You can't see the scratches from outside but the perfectionist in me can't stand it.
