Lightbulb 2004 TL Feature Questions

Hello.

I had this thread going on the TSX board, maybe we can uncover some dirt here.

------------
If all are in agreement, let's use this thread to ask specific feature questions regarding the new TL.

Let's start the list with the following:

Does it have ventilated seats?
Does it have rear parking assist or backup camera?
Does it have an intelligent key system?
Does it have adaptive cruise control?
What, exactly comes with the HPT option?
Does it have rain sensing wipers?
Can you put the windows down with the keyless entry?
Do the rear windows still go all the way down? (small rear door)
Will the HPT option have exhaust outlets that fill the cut outs?
Does the car have a heated, power tilt/telescopic wheel?
Does it have power folding side-view mirrors?
Auto leveling headlights?
Power rear sunshade?

Let's see if we can drum up actual answers and not bog this thread down with speculation and guesses.

Emu, I'll take a stab at it.

I would say NO to the ventilated seats at least for now. That will probably come on the RL first.

The rear view camera is likely since it has already been on an Acura.

Intelligent key system... who knows, lets hope it does.

Adaptive cruise control, I'd say yes or at least it will soon. (I hear Honda wants to "test" it in Japan first and then bring it to the US)

The HPT option? I'd say nice sticky tires (summer tires), Brembo brakes (if they arent already standard) and some 18 inch wheels.

Rain sensing wipers? I think they're on the European Accord so why not? Its do-able.

Can the windows go down with keyless entry? I'd sure hope so! This is not an expensive feature and if the Accord has it, there is no excuse for the TL not to!

Do the rear windows go all the way down? Again, I'd hope so, the 2nd Gen did!

Heated steering wheel? Probably will make its debut on the RL first. It will telescope and tilt.

Thats all I can think of for now.

Feel free to add to this with your comments

I hope they do the rear-view camera.
Adaptive cruise control and intelligent are used in other cars in the US today.
I really hope the wheels on the HPT will be 18"
Rain sensing wipers are old technology and I think debuted in the VW Jetta in 1994.
The windows should go down with the remote, my 96 Maxima did.
Bummer on the steering wheel, the Maxima started offering it in 2000, I think.

Thanks for the feedback.

LOL, Jdone, where are you from? Where i've lived most of my life, a heated steering wheel was a requirement for 6 months out of the year.

Thanks, Ken1997TL.

I think a heated steering wheel is great. Even places like North and South Carolina get snow.

To each their own.

Man, I agree! But I worked in Tulsa a lot last Winter, and the plastic steering wheel on those rental cars froze my hands every morning.

Hmmm...gloves?

I live in the San Fernando Valley.. if we go down to the mid 50's in the winter, it's cold .. heated seats and heated wheel = nonsense here ... now, ventilated seats.. THAT would be useful (gets HOT in the summer here)!

true, its hot in the ATL so ventilated seats would be sweet.

in regards to the steering wheel, i really wished mine telescoped. I have a hard time getting comfortable because i have a long torso and my arms aren't very long. I was pissed when i found out the current altima's wheel telescoped....

ya, down in LA, it would rock if they could install a REFRIGIRATED steeringwheel instead. For those of you in snow country, you need to expreience a steerinwheel of a car sitting in the sun during 110F weather. That thing literally burns your hands! (esp if the steering wheel is plastic)

Actually, most people in the snow country have VERY hot summers. I grew up in New England... very hot and muggy summers somtimes getting close to 95 and winters with below 0 temperatures. You guys in Cali are spoiled :P (at least in terms of weather)

Ken, in the lower ohio valley, we don't consider 95 degrees Very hot. Most summers >40-50 days over 90. Not much in the way of sub-zero weather though.

I'd have to say "no" to rain sensing wipers. I have a 2003 MDX and the rain sensor is a big box attached to the rear view mirror. From the pictures of the TL, you can't see the box (in fact the rear view almost looks like it hangs from the headliner rather than the windshield).

I've seen comments that a feature will be available merely because Honda/Acura already has it available on another model. If you look at Acura's business model, you will understand that this means nothing. Rather than produce a base model and then give a million options, Acura makes a "fully loaded" model and a Nav model (plus, sometimes,a sports type package). Heck, you can't even get an RL without Nav anymore (though IMHO, that should be standard today on an upper level car).

So, Acura can't offer the rain sensing wipers or other options as separate options or even part of a package. Then they have a price point they are shooting at. Add every option in the world and the price must go up and they have a whole different class of cars with which to compete. So, Acura has to pick and choose its options. In the case of the TL, I think they went for media splash rather than end user usabilty. The blue tooth phone link and DVD audio system are cutting edge, but are they really that desirable by most of Acura's drivers (i.e, if an extra cost option, would most folks order them)? I say no. Ventilated seats, and rain sensing wipers would be much more appreciated by the majority. The DVD sound system should clearly have been an upgrade (such as the DVD video in the MDX). In the next 3 years I might own the car, who many DVD audio's will even be made?

I'll still most likely buy the TL if I fit in it, though why they'd make the trunk so small and reduce any dimentions from the 2003, given that they have the TSX, is beyond me.

All i'm happy about is it has LSD! oh stock "cold-air induction system coupled with Acura's sophisticated dual-stage intake manifold"

COLD-AIR INDUCTION SYSTEM
Cool air is denser than hot air and allows an engine to make more power by packing more oxygen per given volume. To capitalize on this fact, the TL has a special cold-air induction system as standard equipment. Ambient air is picked up through an inlet in the left front fascia, and fed by a duct to the engine air intake. Depending on vehicle speed, this system supplies the engine with ambient air that is much as 15 degrees F. cooler than typical engine compartment air.

Is anyone sure about the windshield wipers? If you go to the new TL page at the Acura website, look on exterior pics and then look at that side view with it in the rain, it almost looks as if the water is being blown off the windshield. Or maybe its just me.

Hmm, the windshield wiper conversations have stopped. I am going to look at the pictures now.
