Bluetooth Security
Bluetooth Security
I dont know too much about Bluetooth (unlike 802.11), but can there be security issues with it? I heard somewhere that Bluetooth range is decent - as in 10-15ft. How possible is it that someone can be driving along in another car (or even if the cars are parked) and start controlling parts of the navi? Or intercept phone calls while driving?
The Bluetooth specification standard has pretty good security. You need to first establish a preshared key on both devices for authentication. Strong encryption is used. Unlike weak 802.11b WEP encryption, in Bluetooth the key is only used to authenticate and then a new hash is done in order to begin data transfer.
Besides the only thing Bluetooth will control in the car is the voice channels from a cell phone device when the button on the steering wheel is pressed. A Bluetooth device will not have other controls over the car.
PS - Some Bluetooth devices are capable of communicating at 100 FT.
