2004 3G clutch replacement

I need to replace the clutch in my 2004 3G TL and would like some advise.
Is it common for the real seal or other seals that fail and should be replace at this time?
Should I plan on replacing flywheel?

  • Yes, replace the flywheel; you can get the OEM LuK clutch kit and the dual mass flywheel for less than $400.
  • Yes, I would replace the rear main seal, you can either buy just the seal, or the entire seal assembly.
  • When I had mine done last year I also had the stabilizer bar bushings and end links, and all six engine and transmission mounts replaced.

Thanks for the advice. I like to do this work myself because a shop would never do it right.
In my area a local shop wanted $3k to do a clutch.

Buy the rear main seal at Honda. The OEM one is the way to go. Loctite for the flywheel bolts if you chose.
$500-700 parts
$500-1000 labor

There is also a small o-ring that i would recommend replacing while replacing your rear main seal.

Part #: 91308-P3R-T01
part # 22 on the diagram.

if you do decide to DIY, document it, cause i think mines about to be done too. I know one of these days imma have to replace it but its gonna be a PITA so ive been holding it off. I also dont like other people working on my car, I rather learn to fix it myself.

LUK is the way to go! Just make sure you replace the flywheel at the same time. This is necessary because of the way Dual Mass flywheels are designed. A worn Dual Mass flywheel will take a new clutch down with it, so spend the extra $200 and don't mess around. It cannot be resurfaced, so don't let some shop tell you they can do that. LUK tech support recommends flywheel replacement at the same time you replace the clutch. My 1st clutch replacement (at 180K miles) lasted only 40K miles when I found this out.

If you ever have to replace the clutch master cylinder however, use the original Nissin brand, not LUK.

Take it from 1st hand experience here!!
