Unhappy 2004 TSX 6MT clutch refuses to release

6 MT 2004 TSX 133000 miles.
Here's the story so far:
6 months ago getting tired of the clutch creaking (and lubing the pedal almost every week), I went to a local mechanic and got the master cylinder replaced. I already had done a master cylinder replacement for the creaking problem when the car was under warranty at around 40000 miles.

After the replacement, the smooth shifting of the car disappeared ( I had to pump the clutch a couple of times before I could shift easily), the mechanic said it is caused by air bubbles in the system which should go away the more I use the clutch. In the next month or so, the shifting became better and better. But just 2 days ago I started having major troubles shifting, and just this morning it refused to shift to any gear when the engine was running.

I took it to the same shop and the mechanic said he bled the system and believes both the MC and SC are working fine and says the clutch refuses to release. He believes there is some spring loose in the clutch itself and says the only option is replacing the clutch. Currently I car is undriveable and in his shop.

Any thoughts on whether the whole story is plausible - especially the shifting issues began right after the MC was replaced by him? Should I get the clutch replaced?

Thanks!

I replaced my clutch with an Exedy Stage 1 plus lightweight flywheel about 18 months ago. I've always driven manuals, and once they get above 100k and start feeling iffy, I replace them -- so I think yours may be due as well.

However, contrary to other posts I've seen on this board, there is a more adjustability with clutch takeup than you may think. Even with the new clutch, I have had issues with the clutch pedal needing to go almost all the way to the floor before it would disengage. The mechanic made some adjustments at the master cylinder (so he told me), and the difference was like night and day. So maybe your clutch still has some life on it with the proper adjustments.

But at 133k, I think you're pushing the envelope anyway, so i'd vote for a replacement to take advantage of a lightweight flywheel (if you like spirited driving).
